I've always been a token hand-washer. Just a couple seconds of lukewarm water, no soap needed. Take that, germs! But I never get sick. Of course, after taking a dump the rules are somewhat different; I generally use soap in that case, if only as a courtesy to people whose hands I might have to shake. But again it's just a token application of soap.

What sorts of habits do the germ-OCD, or disgustingly negligent, citizens of the Wolfweb practice?

pretty thoroughly

anyone else's mom have weird things that she looks for in people? well my mom always looks at people's hands when she sees/meets them. she basically equates your hands, fingernails, etc.... with your personality and character.

so yeah, I was just raised to always have clean hands. I know it's a bit off topic, but I was my hands really well. I usually don't get sick either.

i am guilty of this. teeth are a deal breaker, but fingernails are just as much to me. It's weird, especially because i was a long time nail biter through grade school, but i can't stand it. girls should not be nail biters.

i go to town. i'll wet the non-soap hand, put soap on, lather, then wet both hands, then rinse. THEN i get down to business. i reapply the soap, do each finger, do my wrists, palms, then backs of each hand, then rinse. then i'll use the paper towel to open the door and throw a fade-away into the trash can.

people who simply just swirl around their urine or feces with warm water disgust me

i thought warm water was what killed the germs anyway (or hot water)

i thought washing with just hot water was actually more effective than washing with antibacterial soap and no hot water? i feel like i read that somewhere

yeah, hardly ever use soap, makes my hands too dry. Only use soap if there is actual gunk on my hands or if I am touching food

^^^ Many harmful microbes can live at relatively high temperatures, and in fact many live and grow better at higher temps. Hence why hot tubs are a breeding ground for nasty shit if they are not taken care of. you need to use a good anti-microbial soap or you are just wasting your time by washing your hands.

That is, of course, unless you are washing your hands with boiling water.

I usually wash them for somewhere between 5-10 seconds. It really depends on what I've been doing. If I just changed the oil or seomthing it's a lot more vigorous. If I just took a leak and didn't whizz on myself, I still wash em, but not so seriously.

And I keep my fingernails short enough that there's basically no "under the nail" area to get dirty.

people are funny.

They worry so much about washing their hands, but then immediately afterwards grab the bathroom door handle, the door to the bar/club, beers and drinks from random people, rails in subways etc.

I am quite certain that any doorknob in my building is MUCH dirtier than my penis. In fact, I should probably be washing my penis after I piss, not my hands.

not in the sense that it kills them, but it removes them from your hands, which is the same in effect

Antibacterial soaps have become increasingly popular in recent years. However, these soaps are no more effective at killing germs than is regular soap. Using antibacterial soaps may lead to the development of bacteria that are resistant to the products' antimicrobial agents — making it even harder to kill these germs in the future. In general, regular soap is fine. The combination of scrubbing your hands with soap — antibacterial or not — and rinsing them with water loosens and removes bacteria from your hands.

my point is anti-bacterials have little or no effect on various common viruses, including HIV. you need a good anti-microbial soap (like the ones Surgeons use to scrub down with before surgery) if you are looking to TRULY be clean

no, i know the difference and soaps also remove viruses

I only wash my hands when I take a shower or if they get dirty. If I am cooking for someone else then I wash my hands out of respect to them, but if I am cooking just for myself then I don't.

^ again, not necessarily true. If you scrub hard enough you can clean your hands with just pure water, but the anti-bacterials and anti-microbials don't just remove them, they destroy them.

exactly. I know my door knob doesnt get cleaned every 3-4 days but my penis does.

and elevator buttons, weights at the gym, taxi cab door handles, etc.

^ agree with that too.

Working at a vet clinic, I have to wash my hands between any two animals I come in contact with, and any time I transport a sample (even though they are usually sealed by a layer or two). And then there are all the regular times someone washes their hands. So all combined I probably I wash my hands pretty well about 15 to 25 times a day.
