i ran into this problem when i had to move tww's photo directory to a bigger disk

are you using robocopy?

Zip your files to one file. The increase in copy speed will often make up for the increased time from the zip/unzip operations.

Windows? Windows is pretty bad at making the estimation. I've seen some scary numbers back in the day. I've had one estimate (given in minutes IIRC) that calculated down to 1 year, 3 months before.

i am moving backups of everything to another computer in another building for some more redundancy
