"The problem at MCNC:

All MCNC Data Center Customers, > This afternoon MCNC experienced a service affecting power outage in our data center. We apologize for the service interruption and any inconvenience it may have caused.

The outage lasted approximately 23 minutes. ... Once we determined the cause of the outage, we were able to restore power quickly. We are verifying that all customer services and internal management and monitoring systems have returned to normal operation at this point. We are preparing a full post-mortem report including corrective actions to prevent future occurrences that we will make available as soon as it is complete. "

This is why at my work's labs, there are nice plastic covers over these things...

Besides Vista being down, campus lost internet for about a minute at ~1215 this afternoon, and lots of off campus servers died being there.

I'd like to think that anyone of the newer generations that calls the internet "Inet" will get a swift kick to the balls from everyone standing nearby.

I hope I'd be right.

at least it was only out for 23 minutes. back in like 2k4, resnet was fucked for over a month because one idiot was sharing a metric fuckton of shit on kazaa or w/e and it took them that long to figure out it was one user bringing down the network.

Actual network loss was only a minute or so. OIT has it listed on sysnews (different post) at 1215. Thats when power initially failed. Backups kicked in so it came back up. The servers and stuff all didnt have power for 23 minutes.

well all i see is a giant emergency stop button

what does it stop? maybe he did something that he though needed to be killed

from a human engineering standpoint, it needs some work
