the girl that was standing outside used to live next door and siad the people that live in the really burnt ones have a lot of kids, she said they could not get to their one year old at first that was upstairs

looks like fire is out

there were gas cans outside with tape around them???

did not take pics of them but some guy with an emergency radio was walking around taking pictures from every angle. fire started upstairs and spread looked to be in both attics of the house on either side.

the upstairs bedroom you can see the insulation falling and the firemen were up there making sure it was all out.

whew- i spent the night up in North Raleigh last night and I got a bunch of texts this morning saying my building was on fire...

i'm glad to say though (thank you for the pic's btw) that it isn't my building (I'm a block over)- i'm still gonna head back in a bit to check out all the damage

Unless the guy was in a wheelchair that would have been Mike Legeros...the man behind the Raleigh/Wake Firefighting blog....the other person in the wheelchair is Lee Wilson who is the "Official Raleigh Fire Department Photographer"...I have known both guys for many years...I can guarantee Lee was probably not on scene due to fact he usually does not wake up before noon

one guy had an SLR camera the other had point and shoot, the guy with the SLR had a bright jacked and umbrella, the other guy was wearing regular clothes except for emergency radio

ps 99 times out of 100 in pretty much any modern building with modern clothes, blankets, mattresses, etc, falling asleep with a lit cigarette isnt gonna do anything more than burn a little hole

a lit cigarette can't even spark a gasoline fire

you pretty much have to toss it into a trash bin full of dry paper with some forced air on it for it to eventually produce open flame

One of my friends caught his pants on fire by laying them on a remote control before falling asleep on the couch; so apparently anything is possible. As far as we could tell in the post fire forensics, they must have been holding down one of the buttons long enough for the remote to start to melt.

i have known tons of opiate users who have nodded out with cigarettes pretty frequently and burned holes in everything from blankets, beds, pillows, shirts, pants, carpets, rugs, linoleum, counters, etc etc etc.

only ever saw one that made a spot bigger than a dime or so, and it was in an old ass chair

just saying, its not like it was in the 50s

ps - i know its possible. but stuff is a lot more tested today
