A Rhode Island Senator wants to set up a State council to mediate in children's sports disputes ...
Quote : | "Democratic Sen. John Tassoni Jr. introduced a bill that would create a youth sports oversight council on the state level. The council would act as mediator in disputes between parents of youth athletes and sports officials." |

Wow. One senator doing one crazy thing (in the smallest state) would make you want to switch parties? Don't get dizzy from all the spinning from switching parties.
But yeah, lol at that proposal. The easiest way to settle disputes is to not entertain them - you'll eventually get to the point where people don't think it's that important to get worked up about - you know, where we are now.

^Yes, the best way to discredit the Republican party is by tacking "intelligent design" onto all of its members. People believe some dumb shit, man. When 90% of Americans believe in something that is completely and utterly absurd, but at the same time that absurd belief is considered "sacred" and cannot be criticized by anyone, what can you do? 3/7/2009 1:58:27 PM |

What is interesting is the reactions to the two threads.
"It makes me want to become a Republican..."
"It makes me happy not to be a Republican..."
When Republican posters are presented with an idiotic example of a Republican doing something stupid, they agree that the guy is an idiot, and try to distance themselves from his views.
When Democrat posters are presented with an idiotic example of a Democrat doing something stupid, they attack the thread maker with insults and question his intelligence. Then instead of agreeing/disagreeing with OP they attack the Republican party. 3/8/2009 10:38:28 AM |

lets look at the difference
1. guy wants to mediate conflicts between parents and refs, something rhode island/new england has had problems with
2. guy wants babies to get HIV so that families will realize sex has consequences

its not two totally different levels
its two totally different issues
there are valid reasons to come up with this council, and there are other communities in new england already using such boards/groups - this is just the first time someone wants to institute it on the state level.
i don't know what its like in north carolina, but shit gets rugged up here in junior sports, and this makes a lot of sense actually
i'm ready to hear your valid points for why state legislatures should "remove the negative consequences that take place from poor behavior and unacceptable behavior.” 3/8/2009 5:41:52 PM |

Okay, let me try to take this thread seriously:
The entire state of RI is about the geographical size of one especially spread out city, with a population to match. Rhode Island is like an extended community. As such, they have different issues and approaches to issues than does a state like Virginia, or Montana.
their community apparently has a problem with kids sports getting out of hand. and kids' sports DO get out of hand, mainly due to some psycho parents.
so a state senator puts forth an idea to have an oversight committee to act as a neutral moderator in sport situations that cant be resolved at the point of conflict.
this solution makes sense to me. it makes even more sense to me, that RI is a state that can do whatever they want that doesn't violate any federal laws.
For all of you fence-straddling Republicans, let me remind you of the Tenth Amendment. it still exists, you know. at least theoretically.

As a RI native I can tell you that Rhode Island senators represent areas roughly the size of the NC State campus on average, so basically this is like some dude in town council saying he wants to do this. One dude. One. Dude. 3/9/2009 12:08:05 AM |

Government assistance needed to settle disputes at children's sports game. I shouldn't be surprised that liberals don't see anything wrong with this. RI must be chock full to the brim with Dems, I'm glad I don't live there.

Current gov. is a Republican.
This is one guy who's probably one of those stupid dads that yells at the coach to put their kid in more at little league games.

haha, i don't want to hear any lecturing about the 10th Amendment coming from anyone on the political left (not to insinuate that there are many people on the right who are much better, but at least there is a vocal minority).
and let's be real here...for all practical purposes, the 10th Amendment is defunct. I wouldn't even say that it's still theoretically in effect. More like nominally.

so, you're saying you're only in favor of the Tenth when the issue at hand meshes with your preferred party's national platform...
