everything from MAN LANDS ON MOON to BOMB MELTS NIPS to NIXON RESIGNS to ALLIES INVADE NORMANDY to FDR IS DEAD, LUCKY LINDBERG CROSSES ATLANTIC, all that crap.basically all the neat stuff from the 20s through the 70s or so. although it seems to not include anything about viet nam.... then it looks like someone else started collecting papers in the early 90s around the time that the soviet union split. and the all important last copy of the raleigh times or whatever.but the best part about all this....the ads inside. my god, when i get time and figure out how to do it, im gonna scan this stuff. its amazing what people would buy for 22 cents and rub in their asscrack. and i am not exaggerating.]

I love the newspapers from the 50s/60s with the great racist headlinesThe colored boys in pullen park is a local example most of us have seenMy favorite was one from Hartsville, SC where it showed a black guy drinking from a former white's only water fountain and like 6 white guys giving him the evil eye with the headline "Locals not keen on new regulations"
3/9/2009 11:32:03 AM
oh, man, i know.i know about the history of most of these headlines, so i've been skimming below the fold (when its not a full pager) and the inner pages....the paper would have been like 2 pages thinner if the word negro wasnt used.speaking of negro, i learned that MLKjr's brother died in a swimming pool on the same date as something important, i forget what paper it was in.no foul play suspectedi never knew he had a brother. but i figured he couldnt swim. ooooooooooo
3/9/2009 11:39:47 AM
course he couldn't swimthats why of the 4 guys lost in the gulf last weekthe white guy was the one who survived

i had to use the microfiche in the library to do some research for a project and made an afternoon of poking around through the old stories. and yeah the ads are probably the most entertaining parts. that and seeing the different takes on major events across different cities' newspapers.

Some white boys remained in the pool as the Negroes swam around.
3/9/2009 3:40:31 PM
there was an article very similar to that posted here before and it said something like "10 white children remained in the pool. THEY WERE OKAY."

Yeah, I've got a box full of old WWII era Life magazines and the vast majority of the pictures are of dead japs on beaches.Even on the news today (tv and online) they'll warn you that "some of these images may be disturbing" but then all that they'll show you is some blood on the street. Of course, every 14 year old kid has seen more fucked up shit on shock sites by now.

i've got the entire series of "All-American Ads" 1900s-1980it took me a while to find and buy them all off of amazon/ebay (BUT IT'S A TAX WRITEOFF IN MY INDUSTRY!!!1)each decade is about as big as a phonebook and it pretty much confirms that the more things change, the more they stay the samei think my favorite covers are the 1930's onei don't remember why this cowboy is getting his ass whupped (guess it was cause he was stealing food), but it's funny to meand the 1950s onecause it's just blatant "Joe Whiteman"[Edited on March 9, 2009 at 3:51 PM.
