I have a question for anyone who has recently purchased a house. Since I bought my house, I have been getting, in ridiculous volume, letters soliciting "Mortgage (accidental death/life) Insurance," some from reputable companies and some clearly fraudulent.

I receive about 1-5 of these daily. Many have the return address of my mortgage lender and are labeled "second notice," "important information about your loan," or similar on the outside of the envelope. I have received about 200 to date.

Do you receive these? In such great numbers? Is there anything illegal about this? Should I box them up and give them to the postal inspection service?

This is really starting to get on my nerves. It constitutes about 95% of my mail.

They'll taper off in a few months. Since the fact that you just got a mortgage is fairly public information, these companies mail shit off to new homeowners that appear on whatever databases they subscribe to. Just ignore them. The same thing happens with lawyers if you're in a car accident or get a speeding ticket.

just put them straight in your recycling bin and don't worry about it.
Just be sure to open the ones that are actually from your mortgage company, insurer or warranty company if you hvae one

The home security people were the worst w/ the phone calls.

And I doubt that the postal service really cares about spam mail, if it constitutes 95% of your mail it constitutes 95% of their revenue from you.

i got them constantly for a long time.

i got a sharpie and started with "take me off your mailing list" and sticking it in the return envelope.

that didn't get the point across so i wrote "stop sending me mail". still no luck

then i wrote "take me off your fucking mail list" and they quit.

i figured if i could waste enough of their postage they'd eventually stop, and they did.

They get your information off your "deed of trust" that is recorded at the register of deeds office. Anyone can go online and get the info, companies pay people to go pull the info off the records and enter it in their databases.

They will taper off eventually.

I know where they get it from. They just need to burn in hell.
