got any better pics of it?

[Edited on March 14, 2009 at 10:30 PM. Reason : provided the blower motor was replaced, does the a/c work? how about the other power options?]

look in my gallery, pics of body work are included. Theoretically the A/C should work if recharged. I rebuilt the system about 3 years ago, new compressor, etc. for about $800 and converted over to r-134a. The reason I say it theoretically should work is that when I bought the car, the original compressor mounting bracket was missing. I had someone fab a little bracket but it does not allow perfect alignment with the bell housing, so the compressor tends to throw belts. I gave up and didnt bother trying to use the A/C, I just drove with the windows down in the summer. There is a chance cadillac heaven in Leland, NC would have a bracket to keep the thing aligned. They had other parts for my car. It should be noted when the system was fully operational the climate control never worked because the sun load cell in the dashboard probably burned up 20 years ago, so i just put the thing on high fan and turned it down to 65. The car is so big it will never be as efficient as a modern car but it cooled. When you drive a car that turns heads though, I think you'd rather have the windows down to answer questions people inevitably ask when you're stopped at a light.

uh, i mean like current pics... not some from years ago of it torn apart.

that's more the fault of r134 in a system designed for r12 than anything.

i dont have any recent pics, you'd have to see the car. I am in southport working BNP outage, the car in wilmington, and my camera in Hartsville...

Actually, provided you you do the retrofit correctly r134a can be as efficient provided you get the low/high side pressures correct. I spent all sumer in an ASE refrigerent car class at CFCC. Fun class, the teacher let us work whatever pet projects we want. I rebult an early 80's rx-7 rotary engine in that class from a pile of parts that someone had dumped in the corner.

yes, why yes i have. I've taken mulitple thermo courses I understand the heat capacity of 134a is reduced in comparison to r12, however provided you keep sufficient airflow over the condensor you should be ok provided you dont sit in traffic too much. additionally i made the change because it is not cheap to acquire r12, while not impossible, it's not super cheapo like 134a

and for the record the car did run r12 for a while before the swap over, regardless of the refrigerant the system was just not as efficient as compared to today. i mean the car doesnt even have cruise control

okay, well if you decide to get serious about selling it and want to get some decent pics maybe we can talk further. fuck if i'm driving 2 hours based on your descriptions over the internet though.

whoever told you r134 can be as efficient as r12 is smoking crack, end of story. it has about jack shit to do with head pressure either, it's the properties of the gas/liquid. now, the argument can be made that r134 in a system specifically designed for r134 can be just as efficient as r12 in and r12 system, but no way on r134 in an r12 system.

off topic, what's going on at bnp? i've got family on oak island (caswell beach and long beach).

yeah, ok. I'll get some more pictures when I'm done here at the outage. I just don't have time to really mess with it right now working 80 hours a week and only one day off. I discovered that I have to bleed the brake lines too since it's been sitting and i suspect there was a slight leak and the reservoir ran dry. If I get that taken care of I may actually drive the car up to raleigh, I don't know where you live but if I'm up there and you're interested you can have a look.

It's just a refueling outage going on down here. Been here since 2/28, not going home to SC until 3/30. Upside is all this overtime, who doesnt love a $4000+ paycheck every two weeks??? LimpyNuts was kind enough to let me stay in his house a few minutes from the plant so I get an extra $70/day per diem for lodging in addition to the $39/day for food.
