One of my friends wants to get his DL using his roomates car.. Is that possible? I mean is it possible to get liability insurance just for a day or two?

i believe there's a way to get liability insurance for yourself no matter what you're driving. in other words, you can get liability without a car. it just covers that person.

not sure, but check into it.

Why do you need insurance for a driving test? You don't even have a license yet.

a requirement for a license is proof of insurance. insurance comes before a license.

Wouldn't he just use his friend's existing insurance card as proof of insurance? You don't have to add someone to your policy if they're only using the car once.

Yeah, you insure vehicles, not people (except in the case of individual liability that was mentioned earlier). You list the primary driver and secondary driver if applicable, but if your friend wrecks your car it's your insurance, not his, that has to pay out. You're responsible for your vehicle, whether it's how you drive it or who you let drive it.

So the current registration of the vehicle (which includes insurance info) should suffice at the DMV.

It's called a non-owner policy.
When I had it with USAA, the coverage I had while driving was whatever the owner had.

you can sign a waiver, for driving fleet vehicles. but you may only drive company owned, not personal cars
