Best game the SNES ever had. It was such a huge game for its time, and I can still play it over and over today and not get bored.

Indeed. I remember getting it for Christmas when it first came out and playing through it in like two sittings. Great game. Although I thought Mother 3 was a major let down.. maybe because I expected so much. Earthbound was seriously one of the greatest games of my childhood. 3/17/2009 7:44:14 PM |

My sister left my SNES and my copy of earthbound outside in the rain one day after bringing it to a friends house. It doesn't work anymore Now I'm stuck playing roms. 3/18/2009 6:44:11 AM |

roms are better because you speed up the frame rate and play it in like 1/4 of the time. 3/18/2009 8:39:27 AM |

While I love playing SNES games on roms (hell I've got earthbound on my phone) - playing the classic on a big TV is always fun. 3/18/2009 8:44:18 AM |

^^I'm a huge fan of Mario RPG. Smithy was the shit (when he still has the beard anyway, I don't like him when he transforms). Fighting Culex (who resmbles Final Fantasy) in Mario RPG means double the fun.
Earthbound is still my #1 though. 3/19/2009 7:27:59 PM |

Hah yeah, getting into that room with the fake final fantasy boss was great. Mario RPG stand out because it plays like a jrpg but it has hilarious jokes throughout. I hate that Mallow never made an appearance outside of that game.
Plus you got to be friends with Bowzer... awesome.

who here doesn't remember their first trip through moonside? magicant? or fucking the final boss and the robots? that game was incredible

So I guess another rpg did come close?
And the turning into robots thing was my least favorite part of the game. I've never played Mother 1 or 3, but I'd like to eventually.3/24/2009 10:17:47 AM |

you don't need to stock up on lifenoodles in the cave of the past, just get a shitload of multi bottle rockets and the last part of the game isn't hard at all. earthbound really isn't that hard of a game, there are plenty of ways to get through any part.
or you can always do the thing where you make enemies disappear off the edge of the map before going any further...........
and yes, bdmazur, the one rpg to come close to earthbound was mother 3. I guess what I was trying to say is that no other rpg from another series/franchise came close to replicating the experience brought forth from earthbound and the like.
Mother 3 is definitely worth a playthrough if you enjoyed EarthBound. There are many things Mother 3 does better, IMO; the music is a lot cooler, the difficulty is a lot harder, the animations are a lot cooler, the characters are much more fleshed out, and the overall storyline is a lot better. They are similar enough to be just as enjoyable, but different enough so that you can appreciate each one for what they bring to the table. The final chapter of Mother 3 is, IMO, one of the most amazing moments of any game I have ever played. 3/24/2009 2:18:20 PM |

Mother 1 isn't a bad game, but it is almost unplayable because the difficulty borders on ridiculous most of the time (making power leveling a necessity, something I hate doing) and the random encounter rate is insane (yes, M1 has random encounters.....). The storyline isn't as cool, and the game doesn't really have that distinct weirdness we all love. I keep playing it and then stopping for several months, but eventually I will beat it. 3/24/2009 4:59:46 PM |
