Hey all,

I need a way to take a screenshot (output from Ansys) and change the white to black and the black to white while keeping the colors the same.

can anyone describe the steps to do this in photoshop/GIMP or if possible in irfanview or something lightweight?

this is the default screen output. I can change the background to white, but the text and lines in the model stay white and I can't seem to change them.



this is what it looks like using the built in print to file with the option to do what I want, but all the text is illegible using this method with any option.

menu > plotCtrls > style > color > reverse video

Never plot scientific graphs as JPEGs. Use GIF, PNG, or EPS depending on the number of colors used and the need for a vector graphic.

word 2007 pukes if I have anything but a jpg for a picture on the same page as equations from its built in equation writer.


if you have a bmp on the same page as some equations, nothing prints in the equations except horizontal lines and parentheses.

what's the reason for using gif/png?

BMP is also acceptable to use

Both GIF and PNG are lossless image formats. That usually means that all your lines stay smooth and your text stays crisp. GIF supports up to 256 colors while PNG supports millions as well as transparency.

ok, that's what I thought.

but then again it must be a jpg to work in word alongside equations. If im saving a screenshot, I can set the compression level so there aren't compression artifacts.

^ That's a problem with your particular copy of word. I've had equations and a veritable cornucopia of image formats living alongside each other in a single document plenty of times without a single problem.

JPEGs always have compression artefacts.
