so, would that make an eventual 6th team to the tournament?
besides him and lefty, how many other coaches have gotten even close to that many teams? 3/23/2009 4:19:21 AM |

he would improve them, but he's not a long term solution by any means. they would essentially go from missing the tournament to a 1st or 2nd round exit. 3/23/2009 9:49:57 AM |

I agree with marko.
The ACC is in a bad way (well, just not as good anymore). I believe Duke and Chapel Hill's domination has contributed to the ACC's decline. A big name coach at another school would help.
And a million dollars says the UVA-UNC rivalry would get more press than State. AHA 3/23/2009 12:05:28 PM |

In 9 years at Kentucky he never lost in the first round, made the Sweet 16 six times and the Elite 8 four times... Drunk Billy couldn't even sniff the second round last year or the NCAA tourney even this year...
Make no mistake about it, Tubby Smith would immediately become the third best coach in the ACC.

yeah, im not getting the hate. I always thought he was a great coach and anyone besides the ultra-elite schools should be grateful to have him.3/23/2009 1:24:36 PM |

while tubby smith at kentucky is analogous to herb sendek, tubby smith is a national title winning coach and is years ahead of sendek.
he would be a huge get for virginia. 3/23/2009 2:34:28 PM |
