^it displays that error when I try to hit the "burn" button in Itunes
When I open Itunes it says in an error message "The registry settings used by the Itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall Itunes"
I've already tried reinstalling it multiple times. I uninstalled all other CD burning software such as Roxio and made sure Nero or anything else wasn't on the computer. I re-installed Itunes again - same error
Any way to disable the CD burning through Vista? I have a feeling the "default" is set to the standard Vista drag and drop to the drive, and it can't recognize the difference. Regardless they should still be able to work together. I searched all over the google and tons of people with the same problem - and no real solution. TWW always comes through..... 3/29/2009 6:37:48 PM |

install this.
GEAR is what iTunes uses to burn CDs. sometimes the library gets corrupted via an update for some reason. 3/29/2009 7:32:43 PM |

^ no luck. If it makes a difference I'm running 32 bit vista. Is the link above for just 64 bit? 3/29/2009 9:03:54 PM |

read all directions first:
- uninstall itunes and any other cd burning s/w - reboot - follow directions 1-17: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2615 - download gear drivers: http://www.gearsoftware.com/downloads.php?dir=updates/windows/drivers/&file=Driver_Installer_x86_x64.exe - Install drivers - Go back to HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/4D36E965 - if upperfilterkeys is not there do the following: 1) create new multi-string value 2) type the value: GEARAspiWDM 3) Hit enter after typing 4) Ok out - download newest iTunes & install
Problem should be fixed

^^^didn't work.....
dell said to reinstall the operating system and not install roxio (I uninstalled roxio the week I got the computer) - that the system coming preinstalled with it meant it was built into the bios
could be I don't have the "upper" and "lower" filter key options at all.....

i did, but the solution i posted above worked just fine.
also, if you download itunes 5/6, you won't be able to play any fairplay DRM tracks or download anything from the itunes store.]4/11/2009 12:21:49 PM |

evan All American 27701 Posts user info edit post |
it sure is.
that's the only problem i've ever had with it.
i can't say the same for windows media player. in fact, after upgrading to windows 7, i can't even play movies - and before you ask, no, there are no codec packs or whatnot installed on this system. 4/12/2009 6:32:03 PM |

^^Interesting, since they are two completely different genre's of software. And I didn't mention it at all. And I have my doubts that's the ONLY problem you've ever encountered with iTunes.

If you want to make a valid comparison, it would be between iTunes and Zune Software.

Did they? Looks like it's just you to me. And I don't recall ever talking specifically about WMP, good or bad. I guess you've gotten lucky with the rest of it. iTunes for Windows has been a memory leaking, resource hogging, slow as molasses, unreliable piece of software from Day1 for me. Which is really sad, because it's a beautiful experience on OSX.4/13/2009 2:35:16 AM |

^^look, I can post arbitrary google fight queries all day too. What's your point? I've never said WMP was good, or better than iTunes. I've never mentioned them before in the same context before this thread. You jumped to a retarded conclusion and don't seem to understand that.
My post was "iTunes blows ass", not "iTunes blows, use _____ instead". 4/13/2009 2:15:14 PM |

actually wmp is about a thousand times better than itunes. Its definitely easier to rip/burn/sync music. 4/13/2009 2:49:04 PM |

no it doesn't. You posted one google link with a semantic title to fit your argument. I can google for "god vs. chuck norris" and turn up a million hits, it doesn't mean that god and Chuck Norris are the same type of THING.
iTunes is a hardware bound media platform. I can only sync with one set of devices, and I can only purchase musc from it's single service offering.
Windows Media Player is a media player. I can't purchase or manage purchases in any way. It's source agnostic for media. I can't backup my meta-data from devices (iPhone), it doesn't manage my data, it only helps organize it.
The fact that they both PLAY media files is about their only common thread. 4/13/2009 10:26:20 PM |
