I'm looking to move in the next couple of months and have been on an apartment hunt. I checked out The Ashborough last week and I really liked the place. It's at the top of my list right now.

I was wondering if anyone on TWW lives there and are willing to share their opinions on the place before I jump on the application. I noticed that the "year-round" hot tub is closed right now ... is that a common occurrence? Please share your pro/cons about the place so I can make an informed decision.

I lived in one of the larger 1-bedroom places, with the wraparound balcony. I was very happy there, except for some occasionally annoying neighbors. But the amenities are nice, the location is fairly decent, and it's quiet. Traffic out in the mornings can sometimes be a problem, with the schools next door, but manageable. I'd recommend it if you're looking to get away from campus a bit, but still be within relatively close distance, and able to avoid 440 to get home.

Thanks for sharing.

How come you moved out? Was there a considerable jump in rent when it came time to renew?

My boyfriend lived there for a year before his roommate got married, and he had a really good experience. It's really close to everything, and the maintenance staff was really responsive .There was lots of storage and closet space and good-sized rooms. He lived in one of the 1st floor 2-bedrooms with garages. The extra money for the garage probably isn't worth it since there's plenty of parking.

if you are planning on being the least bit loud or have friends over more than once a month be prepared to get lots of notices on your door. the people there do not tolerate any noise even during the day. my friend lived there last year and got in trouble when 5 of us were watching march madness on tv during the day. we were not being particularly loud and it was between 11am and 4pm on a friday.
other than random bullshit like that it is a nice place.

I've lived there coming up on two years. I'm about to move out soon because I just bought a house, if not for the house I probably would have renewed my lease. I have a 1 bedroom with the large wrap around balcony. Lots of storage space inside and outside on the balcony. The pool is nice and the gym is about all you could ask for with an apt. gym.

Usually the year round hot tub is on, I hadn't noticed it being out of commission. But yes it is usually on, even during the cold months.

I've had a lot of people over all the time to watch games and things got pretty rowdy and never had any complaints. I guess it's who your neighbors are, which I've gotten to know most of mine on some level.

If you need anything else more specific let me know...

nice place - 2 things

BEFORE YOU SIGN A @#@#$@#$ LEASE GO OVER THERE TO YOUR "PLACE" AT NIGHT AND MAKE SURE THE CRICKETS AND INSECTS AREN'T INSANE. A buddy used to live there and backed up to a nice "wooded view" no lie it was like a fire alarm going off alllll night long. I can't stress this enough, especially the places on the right as soon as you pull in.

keep in mind there is an elementary school directly next door - getting out in the mornings can be a hassle, lots of traffic around there those 30 minutes before school starts. It's just a one lane road with a short light at Dillard/Jones Franklin

other than that - the place is nice

I've lived there for three years now. Rent jumped about 5% between the first and second year, and none between the second and third year. Neighbors can be annoying sometimes, but that happens in every apartment complex (at least that I've been in). The only problem I've ever really had was a notice about having a grill on my patio, but other than that I haven't got any notices about being loud and we're definitely loud sometimes. It's a nice place, close to lots of things. Oh, and it is somewhat of a pain in the mornings (sometimes) getting onto Dillard with the school traffic (usually leaving around 745 or so).

Oops. I thought this was about Asheboro, NC. I had my whole "what are you thinking" lecture up to bat but it looks like the other team got their 3rd out by picking off a base runner.

i lived there for two years and never had any problems when i had parties. no notices or anything. The apartment had a HUGE balcony and the master bath and closet both made me drool. my car stereo was stolen the first year we were there. the school being next door was a good thing for our doggie. the soccer/football field was fenced in and when school was out lots of people would be there with their dogs.

DON'T DO IT!!

With that said, I lived there in a 1 bedroom apartment for 6 months and could hear everything from my neighbors. I could hear their tv and toilets flush.

Now that isn't really the issue, just a huge annoyance. I moved out June 28, 2008 and this week actually got a collection bill saying I owe them $326 for complete bullshit items. My lease ended July 31, 2008, so the apartment was vacant for a month with the ac turned up to 90 degress. Part of what the shitty management over there is telling me I owe is an $85 electric bill which the previous 5 months never exceeded that amount. Long story short, there were other items on their including an oven cleaning fee (I never cooked once in the oven), and they want me to pay this now almost a year later.

Amanda Foley is a complete idiot, and they are all nice and happy until you sign a lease, then it goes to shit. They are the most unorganized and inconsiderate management company I ever had to deal with.

Sorry to come across as an asshole, but I just want to make sure you keep records of every single bill you pay and take pictures of everything before you move in to protect yourself.

Good Luck!

Will finish a third year of living in these apartments at the end of July. Buying a home in a different part of the country, but otherwise would likely have renewed. The biggest plus for me was the layout, which included a garage/driveway and a smaller room I used for an office in a 1-bedroom unit.

As far as negatives, second the comment about the crickets or frog spawn or whatever the hell it is that happens for a few months in early spring. If you are in the first building on the right, backed up to the school, that shit is every single night and it is loud as hell. I could hear it, at a much less annoying decibel level, in my apartment in the opposite facing building with all the doors and windows closed. That building also has a guy who is grown and in a little Honda with ricer lambo doors who thinks it sounds cool at 2 am, so I would advise to stay away. Traffic on Dillard Dr. can also be annoying during the hours school is letting out next door, but it wasn't a huge problem for me. As with almost any apartment office (or any business for that matter), the people are way nicer before they have your money, but I've never had to go over there an do anything besides pay rent or put in a work order.
