Hello all,
So today I am wondering if it's possible to take a standard USB Keypad and hack/whatever it for use as a shortcut, quick launch and function pad by redefining the keys to emulate other keys or key combinations.
Basically, I want to use this:
Like this:
Is there a program that can do this without a peripheral that is a dedicated "game controller"? If somebody that knows more than me about this could shed some light on this for me I would really appreciate it... 4/8/2009 11:50:19 AM |

Write a program, probably can be done. I see it done all the time with professional gaming keyboards. 4/8/2009 12:57:07 PM |

you would have to have a driver for it since the values those keys will send back to the OS natively are already duplicated on your keyboard. maybe a program would be able to detect which keyboard the input was coming from though? you'd probably have to write it 4/8/2009 1:21:24 PM |

I would suggest saving time/money and just getting a keyboard like this: http://www.techtree.com/techtree/jsp/article.jsp?print=1&article_id=95138&cat_id=653 or a g15 4/8/2009 1:24:23 PM |

A friend recommended this:

But I guess based on what you're saying if I was to map the "1" key as "L", then the "1" key on my laptop would input "L" as well? 4/8/2009 4:30:11 PM |

well your computer knows the difference between 1 and NUM1. if your laptop doesn't have NUM1 until installing the external numpad, then go for it 4/8/2009 5:34:47 PM |

Too bad this thing is enormous and has a full number keypad already... and I would redefine those except for the fact that when I'm entering number values (this is all for 3D work) that's where I always input them... 4/8/2009 7:09:43 PM |
