Who here has taken it or is taking it? Thoughts? I currently take Effexor, which works great for me.

Loss of sex drive is common with all SSRI's as far as I know.

If that's truly the case, I'd hate to see what would happen if I quit taking one. Mine is already pretty high.

i've taken both zoloft and effexor (and others)

zoloft sucked, by far the worst drug i've been on. i gained weight, had zero sex drive (and when i did have the desire it wouldn't work), and had memory problems. the best thing i ever did was get off everything, sucked for a little while but much better in the long run.

I have been on Zoloft for 5 years now and I will probably stay on it for the rest of my life. Less frequent panic attacks, fewer mood swings, and I generally feel better. Less worried and overwhelmed. And I have tried going off of it a few times, but life is much better on it. The only side effects that I have experienced are slight dry mouth, increased thirst, and I definitely feel it when I miss a dose.

I tried Prozac and Paxil prior to trying Zoloft. Prozac blew. Paxil was the worst experience that I have ever had with a medication. I think of Zoloft as being a very user friendly medication. I have only known one person who quit taking it due to difficulty orgasming. I have never experienced any sexual side effects.

I was on Zoloft for a year. It was the only type of that medication that I have ever taken and i have recently considered going back on it.

sex drive = low
ability to orgasm = gone
sense of urgency = gone
all grumpiness & desire to kill stupid people = gone

My nausea went away after a couple days. It was never real bad to start with.

Took Zoloft...it sucked, made me feel worse than depressed. I just couldn't feel anything.

Now I'm on Wellbutrin XL....it makes me stable and doesn't make me feel like crap.

But yeah, why change if it works!

Actually, truth be known...if any of you who no longer take it have any, I'd love to lay my hands on it. My better half can't afford to see another shrink to get hers refilled.

i took lexapro for like 4 months and hated it. but due to recent stress(es)/(ors)/whatever i'm going back to the doctor soon and will likely get at least one Rx (or i hope). i have a friend that takes celexa (sp?). i don't know. the only anti anxiety/anti depressant i ever took was lexapro and i hated it so much...but it is one of the medicines that people rave about. it just wasn't for me i guess--it just made me feel really weird/not good.

i hope i can find something else though. i don't even like the idea of taking medicine and after i stopped taking lexapro i just tried to exercise and use therapy and changed my diet etc, and those things actually made a huge positive difference. but now i have way bigger issues.

Yeah... I'm on wellbutrin XL myself, but really it only sort of makes me stable at the 300mg dose.

There's still periodic panic attacks, lots of difficulty sleeping, periodic suicidal thoughts, and it more or less seems like I just don't have emotions any more. It's the most annoying, disturbing thing ever, but I can't afford to see a proper doc right now to go try something else.

I was on Celexa, which breaks your dick and made it so all I did was sleep about 80% of the time outside of work before I finally switched to wellbutrin. It also didn't do enough to stop the panic attacks and such.

I am not sure I want to take SSRI's again given the side effects. I've had depression issues for about 7-10 years and only now started to do something about it because my quality of life has been absolute garbage lately and, without medication, I probably would've killed myself by now.

OUTSIDE OF THAT bit of happiness, has anybody taken a variety of SSRI's, including celexa (or its generic equivalent) and found that any of the others were better about the side effects? I'm the kind of person that tends to get those rare, unfortunate side effects in "risky" medications (like the psychotic side effects you can get with "levaquin", those are not fuN), so the less experimenting I have to do where I take a gamble on my mental health the better.

Mmm, it's better than Celexa but it's nothing like what it was before I started slipping into rather bad depression about 9 years ago (and kinda didn't come back out).

Actually now that I think about it I might've had issues with depression all the way back in middle school about 12 years ago. Issues like these are such crap.

Lexapro is a S-enantiomer of Celexa. If you don't like Lexapro, you probably won't like Celexa either.

^^I was on celexa/citalopram for awhile, zoloft for awhile, and finally switched to wellbutrin.
It caused me to LOSE weight because it took away my appetite and has not had any negative effects on my sex drive except to possibly enhance it.
If I can just find a different job, I'd be able to get off the anxiety meds as well. They are starting to lose effect

honestly, wellbutrin is about as good as you're going to do. the biggest complaint with SSRIs/SNRIs is loss of sex drive, and wellbutrin takes care of that in most people. a lot of times, physicians will pair up wellbutrin with an SSRI (not typically SNRIs due to potentiation) to try and offset the side effects, or for treatment-resistant depression.

the only (somewhat) significant issue with it is that it lowers your seizure threshold...

i'm on 450mg qd and i have no significant side effects to speak of.

now... levaquin and the other quinolones are a completely different story (not to mention a completely different class of drug with completely different indications, lol).
