?steve schmidt? (the old mccain campaign guy) had a big speech about how the republican party should be more accepting of gay marriage, etc. i'll see if i can find that speech. . .
here it is:
http://politics.theatlantic.com/2009/04/steve_schmidts_speech_the_full_text.php
excerpts:
Quote : | "To state the obvious: the Republican Party needs to grow. A review of the exit polls and current demographic trends in the United States should make it clear to all but the most determined optimist that our coalition is shrinking, and losing ground with segments of the population that are growing. Whether it's with suburban voters, working class voters, college educated voters, Hispanics or left handed Albanian psychics, the percentage voting Republican has declined. Perhaps, the most alarming of these various and generally worrying results of the last election is the huge margin by which we lost voters under 30. " |
Quote : | "The institution of marriage is the foundation of society and alterations to its definitions shouldn't be lightly undertaken. It has always been defined as the legal union of a man and a woman, and it's understandable that many Americans are apprehensive about making a definitional change to so profoundly an important institution. But it is a tradition, not a creed, or, at least, not a national creed. It is not how we define ourselves as Americans. And while we shouldn't carelessly dismiss the importance of enduring traditions, we should understand that traditions do change over time in every society. And as long as those changes do not conflict with the tenets of our national creed then they can, and inevitably will, be modified by a society that has come to view them as inequitable. " |

As they should. Their hard news programs are pretty standard to the other networks. Are they more right than other networks? Probably. But to be honest, how could you not be more right than MSNBC, NBC, ABC, and to a lesser extent, CNN.
On a personal note, I lost all hope for MSNBC when I was watching Obama's Inaguration. MSNBC had on air commentators crying and crediting their network for getting him elected. Fox had people telling others what a historical landmark this was for civil rights.4/20/2009 11:48:31 AM |

OMG!!!! CNN IS HIRING A PERSON WITH ZERO QUALIFICATIONS TO COMMENT ON POLITICAL AFFAIRS!!!???
EVERYONE KNOWS THAT CABLE NEWS NETWORKS SHOULD ONLY HIRE FORMER SPORTSCASTERS LIKE KEITH OLBERMAN TO COMMENT ON POLITICS!!!!!
Listen, if you want informed opinions on new matters you can find it. On TV there is "This Week" (where Paul Krugman is routinely called in to lay major pwnage on the entire panel) or Meet the Press (yes it is still good, even if Gregory isn't Russert). If you can't find time to watch these shows there is The Economist.
If want loud-mouths/celebreties/comedians/sportscasters opining on current events, well you can find that too. Welcome to America, friend. Where people are allowed to have diff tastes. 4/20/2009 12:20:27 PM |

So I say Fox News is more right than these networks, and you disagree with me? I'd argue that compared to Middle America, these networks are much further to the left than Fox is to the right.
Moron, for every collage you post of Fox News Bias, I could post one of any other network or major newspaper (BTW, that collage is more focused around commentary pieces than Hard News shows). The fact is simple: All of these shows are going to make mistakes at some point. You should expect that. But focusing on a single networks errors while ignoring the others is ridiculous and downright deceitful. Yet, you guys seem to fall for it everytime.
I'd also like to point out that you should consider who is fanning the "fox news is bias flames". Remember the big uproar a few months ago when an anonymous source said O'reilly was given talking points by the Bush Admin to use on air.....I believe a certain network in my list above perpetuated that rumor without a shred of evidence. I actually had a guy at work reference this last week as being a fact because he had heard it on the Daily Show. I was like 4/20/2009 1:31:20 PM |

^^^ is Fox New's commentary meaningless? I'm pretty sure when people talk about Fox News' ratings, their commentary shows are included. Not to mention it's the most high-profile part of their network.
And is there any left-wing commentary show that's as far left as Fox's commentary is right? Even Bill Maher, if you've ever seen his show, always gives the righties he has on room to speak, not to mention that there isn't really a lot of the shouting and anger that you see on Fox.
Socks`` is right though, in that all of the cable news network are pretty much terrible, and people can choose really terrible Fox over terrible CNN if they want to. But there's no sense in pretending that Fox News doesn't go to great lengths to twist what they can. 4/20/2009 2:46:19 PM |

One strange thing I've noticed though is that the righties on his show will say very middle-of-the-road things, then the next day when Fox is interviewing them, they're back to the batshit insane far-right rhetoric again. That on conservative magazine editor being the clearest example in my memory.

Fox News daily memos from the top instructing them to be more conservative:
A straw poll ends with 0 for McCain, all for Obama, and the fox reporter calls it split & obviously a battleground area as the people in the room laugh at him for it.
Fox implying Barack Hussein Obama is muslim until CNN called them on reporting a false story.
