Hahaha this is the truth. I have a few friends I work with that went to Auburn, and they all said they lived in trailers when they were in school. They were there for undergrad though.4/26/2009 2:18:53 AM |

I've lived here for almost two years now and I still haven't figured that out. Let me know if you find it out.4/26/2009 7:45:21 PM |

No drinking on Sunday, that is what's in Alabama.
Other than that, if you like the outdoors, northern Alabama isn't bad. It has some good bouldering / climbing and I've heard that the kayaking is decent. Birmingham is a pretty active city, Montgomery doesn't have much, though Sous la Terre is worth a visit.
Be prepared for an obnoxious obsession with football that makes the ACC's affair with basketball mere child's play. 4/26/2009 8:41:51 PM |

I'm living in University Village down there. Basically for lack of a knowledge of the area and the fact that they gave me $500 and a Wii to sign a lease. I was planning on just doing the roommate matching until I learned my friend from high school will be attending as well. I signed a lease for a three bedroom so there is still one room open... 4/27/2009 12:40:53 AM |

Yeah really. When I moved here, I was hanging out with a fellow member of the Wolfpack who happened to be co-oping here. We were told by the locals that we had to support a football team so we both responded with "Wolfpack". This irritated the natives greatly and between bites of Slim Jims they demanded that we chose an Alabama team, hinting that we had to choose either Auburn or University of Alabama. We chose Calhoun Community College.

This is true. Although I haven't been rock climbing, a number of my friends do it here a lot. I did go caving a few weeks ago, there are lots of caves around here. Last summer I went rafting too, but that was in Tennessee (which is only a few mins from Huntsville anyway). And at least here in Huntsville we have the birthplace of NASA (and one of the original Saturn V rockets).4/27/2009 11:13:57 AM |

Quote : | "welcome to SEC football" | Oh, its not just SEC. This shit happens at the high school level. The only place high school ball is bigger is Texas and possibly Oklahoma. People who graduated 20 years ago, and who have no children, still go to the games around here.

I go for Florida for no other reasons than the fact that my grandfather went there and it pisses Alabama fans off. It is really ridiculous. "Roll Tide" is an accepted greeting around here. Seriously, who name's their school after menstrual cycles?
I do, however, enjoy the looks of utter incomprehension when I try to explain that when it comes to football, I. Just. Don't. Care.
I might have to start pulling for the Lurleen B. Wallace softball team just for shits.4/27/2009 9:06:30 PM |
