for an '04 4.8L v8 silverado. completely stock and will stay so.

I want best (and still safe) performance right out of the box with no additional tuning. Not going to dyno tune it or anything drastic.

I assume these things will leave the stock ecu completely untouched after removing (for inspections, etc)?

At first glance on Summitracing, there are Hypertech, DiabloSport, Crane, Jet, Superchips, and I recognize the name "Bully Dog."

yeahh.. for the diesels they do a lot.. like they add enough alone to destroy a stock tranny pretty quick if you aren't careful

for gas engines there isn't much it can do.. changing timing really doesn't amount to much

save the money for a duramax if you a wantin a chevy

or you should go back a few years for the truck that god herself handed down to mankind

12V Cumminz equipped dodge. but then you dont have to worry about electronics.

not a waste at all imo. except for the piggyback unit part. go with a decent hand held programmer and a reputable mail order/custom tune. pcmforless or something. you can always reload the stock file for any warranty work concerns or whatever.

it aint no 6.0, foo. I'm saying a box-tune aint doing shit, and ill stand by 10whp. now maybe if you start swapping intake/headers/fueling mods... but then homeboy has some $dime$ dropped

speaking of $dime$, i need ~$10k to finish my build

stand by that number all you want, but the only times it'll be right are in the cases of 87 octane files or junk products. even the little 4.8's should see ~20rwhp in most cases with a decent tuner on 93 octane. a little more with a custom file or dyno tuned. no other mods.

lets keep in mind the truly important things a tune does for a modern vehicle though. peak rwhp/rwtq gains are only a small part of the equation in terms of the real world experience. you've got power under the curve, torque management settings, power enrichment, fuel/timing curves, knock reports, line pressure, upshift delay, etc., etc. a good tune brings all of that together to improve performance well beyond what a dyno reads. fuel mileage increases are nearly always a byproduct as well, even though that's generally offset by the requirement for premium.

for the sum of $300-400, there's little else to match the bang for your buck.

[Edited on May 21, 2009 at 10:24 PM. Reason : the even cooler part about lt/ls stuff is the huge diy tuning community and software access/support]

yes, you have me there. in an argument I never remember to consider power under the curve, and that is where the gains are at, especially if in the lower rev range.

touche.
