those barrels are owned by a private company that was contracted to do the work. if you look, you will see the company name stenciled on the side of each barrel.

$51K for an art project that's probably overgrown with weeds by now.

What does this guy waste? $200 per project. That's a lot of projects to add up to $51K. The state probably wastes more money on the cleanup. I'd argue that we could save tax money by eliminating that effort.

don't get me wrong, i like the barrel monster. but let's not pretend that he or anybody else has the right to do something like this, or that it's not an improper use of what is essentially taxpayer dollars. while the Light+Time Tower might be a bigger "waste" of money, it was intentionally commissioned to be what it is.


for instance, what if he came by and spray painted your entire car to look like a monster? yeah it would be cool, and it would be relatively cheap for you to have the "damage" repaired, but you wouldn't just let him get away with it like he did nothing wrong

it is tax money. maybe not directly, but perhaps that company and others build into their cost estimates a certain amount to cover theft or vandalism such as this. if people weren't vandalizing their property, maybe they would be able to charge the taxpayers less
