So I went to crank it this evening and nothing happened. No dash lights no nothing. So I figure the battery is dead. I get a jump and still nothing. Then the battery Fuse (30A?) starts smoking and pops. Its a huge gauge wire with two connectors on it. It is currently stuck where it is.
I'm thinking:
1) Replace fuse 2) Replace battery
What do you guys think it could be? It didn't even try to crank which makes me think it may not be the battery as it drove fine this morning... 6/4/2009 9:08:51 PM |

Could be bad starter. Something's certainly grounding out. Disconnect the starter and alternator at their respective locations(the big red wires go to each). If it still pops the fuse either the wires are grounding out or something in the wiring harness is, but that would usually pop a smaller fuse somewhere. You can track it down by pulling all the fuses and relays then replacing them one at a time until the fuse pops.
Also, if the battery cables are corroded, they'll get very hot, possibly melting the plastic insulation or anything nearby.

It's probably a fusible link. You can buy the correct wire(don't just replace it with regular wire) and fix it yourself, or get one at the dealer.
Take the battery to autozone, etc and have them check it for a dead cell. 6/5/2009 12:11:17 AM |

that did it. Replaced wire in fuse and new battery. Cranked right away.
Must have been a bad cell in old battery. 6/5/2009 10:57:07 AM |

So it cranked but then it stalled out.
Anyone wanna buy this thing really cheap? I don't wanna pour any more money into it. What I've had done to it lately:
New radiator new tires front brakes cold air intake new alternator new battery sony CD player with alpine speakers
Digital dash worked fine Odometer turns (168k)
Leather seats, lots of creature features, t tops don't leak.
Unless you can repair it in the parking lot, it will need to be towed at this point. 6/5/2009 2:54:55 PM |
