I have a Dell desktop with Windows Vista Home Premium that I have had for a couple years now, core 2 processor, 2 gig ram, etc. I haven't really had many problems with it at all and today I came home from a trip and all I saw was the mouse and a black screen. I could move the mouse but nothing was on the screen and ctrl alt delete didn't do anything. I rebooted and logged in and when I tried to open anything it would completely freeze except the mouse would still move like before. I can get into safe mode but spyware reports and the like have come back with nothing.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance. 6/7/2009 9:02:36 PM |

system restore back a week or two ..you can do that in safe mode.
if that doesn't work you'll probably need to just reinstall windows 6/8/2009 8:26:59 AM |

yeh, try to restore in safe mode.
if that doesn't work, run the diagnostics to rule out hardware.
if that doesn't work, reinstall OS.

system restore did nothing, hard drive isn't making any weird noises.
if I reinstall windows will that erase things on my hard drive? I am trying to install a backup hard drive to put all the stuff I want to keep on it but that is proving to be more difficult than I thought 6/8/2009 7:16:16 PM |

well I decided just to install windows on a new hard drive (picked up a 1 terabyte drive from best buy) and I will just take the data from my old drive that I want to save and then turn it into an ubuntu drive 6/8/2009 8:12:59 PM |
