So I just hooked up my Rock Band 2 drums for my PS3, and the green/x won't work. I've done a search on the internet and found lots of issues with the pad not working, but I think my issue is completely different. Anytime I reset the drum kit it acts like I hit the green/x button. That makes me think somehow always depressed, and only when the signal is interrupted (i.e. reset) does the PS3 get the signal. The problem is I bought the kit 4 months ago when Circuit City was going out of business, so the warranty is over. Anyone seen this issue or have any tips? 6/14/2009 7:48:35 PM |

Just pirate all of your Microsoft OS's and especially VB products. With a hacked 360, you can also steal the games too. With the money you save from doing this, you can surely afford to buy new rock band equipment. 6/15/2009 1:07:02 PM |

Holy shit. Of all the people I would have thought that would recommend pulling a move like this, I would have put noen at the bottom of the list.
I guess it's ok to swindle hardware manufacturers out of money, but copying software is always wrong 100% of the time.

I knew all you tards would come out of the woodwork.
The product was DOA out of the box. It didn't work. There's absolutely nothing unethical about it. EA's hardware warranty on this equipment is a fucking joke. This is not taking advantage of a company in any way shape or form. If a product doesn't work OUT OF THE BOX and is still being produced, you should be able to return it.
Unlike PIRACY and THEFT, there is no money lost here. The OP ends up with exactly what he paid for, one working set of drums.
-----
If he has been USING the drums, and they broke outside the warranty, tough titties. But that they never worked properly at all (the same shit has happened to me 3 times with RB drumsets, fortunately I've returned them within the BB 14day policy), is absolutely inexcusable.
-----
Speaking to the Xbox360 hacking, hell yes I modified my 360. And when it finally RRoD'd, guess what? I was shit out of luck. No warranty claim for me, because I voided my warranty.
All you trolls can go crawl back in your hole now. I realize it's hard to rationalize the difference to yourselves between THEFT and consumers rights, but there is a HUGE difference. 6/15/2009 6:00:36 PM |

Because the magical replacement faeries take the drum set off to the world of milk and honey and sprinkles it with magic dust? How does returning hardware to be exchanged not cost a company money? You could debate that software piracy doesn't cost money in many situations, but hardware? That's not even kind of debatable.

No, it's called consumer rights. See when you PAY for a good or a service, you are granted certain rights as a consumer. There are several "electronics lemon laws" currently being proposed in states, though I have a feeling NC isn't one of them. You, as a consumer, have a reasonable expectation for a product to work when you purchase it new, within a reasonable amount of time (many electronics sit in warehouses for the better part of year before being purchased, so yes 90 days is a joke).
Quote : | "Even if it was straight out of the box, he admitted to let it sit around for 4 months. They should just take his word for it that he hasn't been using it for the whole time? " |
You can do a visual inspection and immediately be able to tell whether it's been used or not. This is not hard, and I have no problem with that kind of request (as it keeps people from commiting fraud by purchasing known broken equipment and trying to trade it out for new).

It absolutely costs EA money. And it should. They are selling BROKEN equipment (again, I have multiple firsthand experience with this). They should, and do, bear the financial burden of this.
This is ENTIRELY different than software piracy. Piracy is THEFT, plain and simple. You are not PAYING for anything, so you have no rights. This is PAYING for a good, and is a breach of contract because you are not receiving the product as described. How hard is that to understand?
Quote : | "And we all know you're the decider of all things ethical 'round these parts. And thank God for all the great work you do too." |
Unfortunately, there are apparently only a handful of people on this site who have any ethics, so it wouldn't suprise me if I were. The fact you (and the rest of your stooges) don't recognize the inherent difference between buying a defective product and theft really hits that point home. You are the same group who buying computer hardware, overclocks it, breaks it, then returns it.
It's so disappointing how little regard you guys have for other people.6/15/2009 6:52:20 PM |

if I buy Vista off the shelf and go home and realize its 'defective'...I can't exactly go back to the store and trade it in for another copy. So really I just wasted my money on garbage. And I can't exactly just wait around a few years for Microsoft to rape me again on a new OS that supposedly 'fixed' all the problems it had in the first place.

So there's a piece of hardware who's sole purpose is to transmit the pressing of 4 buttons to a game console, and you think that 90 days is a "fucking joke" of an amount of time for a product warranty.
But an entire OS which can (and does) fuck up in a million different ways, and 45 days is all you get?
Since I think that 45 days is a "fucking joke", I think I'll just pirate the next version of Windows. Under the Noen guidelines for being a moral person, it clearly states that if I'm unsatisfied with a product's given warranty period, it is acceptable for me to break the rules as I see fit until I am a satisfied customer. 6/15/2009 9:34:41 PM |

^thank you for bringing some sense.
&^Software can (and is) fixed, updated, and added to post-sale at no cost to the consumer. Hardware cannot be fixed, updated or added to post-sale, for free.
Most OS' come with longer warrantees. OSX comes with support through Apple that is tied to the hardware. Windows (Retail) includes 90 days of support through Microsoft *in addition to* hardware vendor support. Enterprise Linux comes with support through the distributor. All commercial OS' have "life-cycles" that are on the order of 5-7 years for which they are supported for updates, patches and additonal functionality.
Your argument holds no water. If the OS "fucks up a million different ways", you have a multitude of ways to fix those issues, at no cost. Hardware does not have this luxury.
So yes, 90 days on a Retail purchased hardware device is an absolute joke. 1 year should be the minimum consumer warranty on any retail purchased hardware product (and largely, that IS the standard).
And you miss the KEY difference here. Being unsatisfied with a product AFTER you purchase it is a completely different argument than STEALING it because you might b unsatisfied with it. Keep in mind that Windows Vista (and 7) can be legally downloaded, installed, and used for a full 30 days without requiring ANY purchase. As can most commercial software products these days.
Your rationalization for Piracy holds absolutely no water. Can you honestly tell me that in 30 days of USE, you cannot determine whether you want to purchase a product? Judge it's reliability, value and usability? And then, AFTER that 30 days, you can purchase it, and have another 45 days to return the product for any reason? No. It's THEFT, and you need to stop lying to yourself. 6/15/2009 10:13:20 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
What rationalization have I provided for piracy? It's all stealing, and I'm not trying to justify it.
I'm just pointing out that if you ignore the legal return policies and warranty periods and use deception to exchange known damaged items for good ones that you're, at the very least, just as bad as someone who downloads a copy of photoshop or Windows. And if the best excuse you can come up with is that the 90 day period is "a fucking joke" and doesn't comply with some faux industry standard then you're really not fooling anyone but yourself. 6/15/2009 11:47:44 PM |

OMFG 45 days??? Wow thats more than EA's 90 days!!
and where the fuck do you get apple fanboy from, douchenozzle? I love my Microsoft Xbox360 over my PS3 because over all its a lot better. Same reason why I like my Mac over my used to be PC because it's better. Its nothing to do with apple's name being on it. Its simply because I get what I pay for. Vista "sucked" because Microsoft caved into Intel's demand that their integrated chipsets be validated for Vista. Those same chipsets (i9xx) accounted for like 60% of the OEM market at the time. So Vista ran like shit on those systems, and Intel's drivers were absolutely horrific. Most OEM's also skirted the recommended memory requirements, which made matters worse.
Vista has a horrible reputation because of it. By the time SP1 came out, OEM hardware had caught up, drivers were stable, and standard memory was 1gb. If you didn't buy a bargain-basement OEM PC, Vista has always been a pretty reliable and performant OS. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. I agree with you that OSX delivers far, far better experience for a home user. But that doesn't make it horrible, and it doesn't make it broken.6/16/2009 1:56:40 AM |
