I walked up there for lunch and placed a to-go order at the counter. The cashier asked me what kind of drink I wanted.

"Small," I said. I didn't specify which size meal I wanted.

"No, what kind of drink do you want, sir?"

"Huh? Uh, Dr. Pepper."

Now, Wendy's has a self-serve soda fountain. I don't think I've ever been asked what kind of drink I wanted for a to-go order at the counter before. When my food came up, sure enough, I got an empty cup as usual and prepared my own drink.

So what the hell was the point of that?

IT REALLY MAKES YOU THINK!

One possibility is that they have to enter the drink type into the computer where it's sent to a database that utilizes complex algorithms in order to estimate ice/carbonated water/soda syrup usage based on what/when you ordered and size so that it can be integrated into supply chain management software to ensure that there is not an interruption of soda to the dining room.

The other possibility is the person was stupid.

today i went to subway and got a 6-inch chicken salad.

the lady asks me "what kind of cheese would you like?"

"no cheese please"

she immediately follows up with "provologne, swiss, cheddar, or pepperjack?"

"...no. no cheese."

then she stared at me a bit before continuing to my banana peppers.

maybe she needed to know if you wanted a water or not which would've been free or cost less or something. They ask at burger king all the time but if you look at the register it just says soft drink when they punch it. Some places you can substitute the regular soft drink with like an orange juice or coffee as well.

As for the cheese lady give her a break, she says the same thing 500 times a day and was probably just having an off day. You don't discover the cure for cancer every day at your job do you?

Maybe they were trying to curb people who ask for water then use the self serve to get a soda.

Or, you know, they could simply take note how often they replace the syrup...

one time at taco bell on campus i saw a kid walk up with a sprite bottle and a coke bottle and fill his bottles from home up with soda and not even get anything from taco bell. he just looks at me and goes "I can't believe i didn't think of this earlier". Needless to say he had a jewfro.

Sure I do. Fortunately, that has nothing to do with my point, so we need not go into that subject. Asking customers what soda they're going to get doesn't really provide any useful information other than what could already be gathered by taking note of when you change each different soda flavor syrup concentrate pack. Plus, relying on customers for that information is unreliable. Of course, you're probably just trying to troll me, in which case, you win.

I love a good bowl movement.

Especially if there's ice cream in said bowl, and the movement is toward my general vicinity.

The wendy's by me doesn't have the drinks out front, they fill them behind the counter and make you wait in line for refills. PITA

Also they have a designated ketchup pumper who pumps the ketchup into the cups, which is nice when our hands are full

[Edited on June 18, 2009 at 1:55 PM. Reason : and yes. 80 percent of the times its a downy and he's get too agressive with the pumping]

me and some friends got kicked out of wendy's buffet once

i guess we were pushing the boundries of "all you can eat" by lounging around reading newspapers and hanging out in the dining area from lunch until dinner.

but of course, when you're young and a prick, things like this amuse you

The Chickfila in the Townridge Shopping Center (off of Glenwood near Pleasant Valley) has a special person that opens the door for you, walks around and hands out mints, and will get you refills.

nah, she comes by and asks if you want a refill. I prefer to get my own b/c I watched her one day getting refills and her hands were all up inside a customer's cup.
