Ok,

So I bought a car late December with supposedly new tires (I am about to look for the paperwork, but the tires had full tread). I have a warranty on the car (I know the manufacturer warranty doesn't cover tires) and I took it to get oil and rotated. Right after I drove away and realized there was a noise present that wasn't there before. It was a cyclical noise like a tire problem. I took it back and they said it was a tire issue and that they will need to be replaced.

Is it really likely that the tires would become cupped after only 5k miles? Plus at 3k is when I rotated them, so I've hardly put any miles on these "new" tires. I know that other factors like poor suspension can cause this, but it's still hard to believe that this problem would ever occur at 5k miles. Is there any way that a poor rotation can cause this noise immediately and get worse?

Point is, I need to build an argument as to why they should cover the cost.

also, looks like i'm SOL because I can't find any receipt of new tires and by the looks of it they are way to worn to be new. So I got a several hundred-thousand dollar lie. Life lessons are a bitch. Gotta find some time and energy to bitch enough to get new tires.

so what your saying is you failed to look at the tires when you bought the car. I dont mean to be rude here, but when people point things out i usually look at the things they point out.
If they took you for a ride so be it. Tires need to be rotated every 5-7 k

AND YES IF THE AIR PRESSURE IS NOT CORRECT IT WILL CAUSE CUPPING. that should be the first thing you check before the shocks

it doesnt take much negligence(sp) for a tire to wear fast/impropperly

Sounds like you need to work on those customer skills some more. A lot more.

First of all- the #1 cause of uneven tire wear is a worn suspension component(s), (usually shocks or struts). Even you can't be so ignorant to realize this, or can you?

Second, splitting hairs here but tires need to be rotated between 6 and 8 thousand miles. Any more is overkill. This interval serves several purposes, most of which are probably over your head but one of which might not be. This scheduled interval provides the oppurtunity for someone, wether it be a tire jockey (like you) or even the owner, to get down there and check the fucking air pressure. If somehow this was missed, or whoever rotated the tires 2000 miles ago somehow managed to fuck up the inflation, then I wouldnt be a bit surprised. I have said it before, I will say it again, never EVER trust the idiots they have working at that tire chain store to do anything right. If you have a choice go to an independant shop. If you dont have a choice, double check everything that was done to your car at the tire chain (before leaving if possible).

Third, and more importantly, the only kind of inflation that could cause cupping is OVER inflation, and most folks arent stupid enough to drive around with 80 PSI in their tires for 2 miles much less 2000 miles without realizing "that doesn't feel right" every time they roll over a manhole cover. Same goes for a gross imbalance condition, sure it can cause cupping but its not fucking likely that kimslackey didnt notice the car vibrating like a paint shaker every day.



Now back to the original topic. Sorry dude, but more than likely you got hosed. How bad you got hosed you will have to wait and see, but its likely before you bought the car in december that it had the same exact problem it has now and the dealer/seller threw a set of tires on it to mask the issue. Getting some new tires on a used car sure makes a great selling point don't it? Now it is possible the old tires were worn out due to natural causes, but you didnt even tell us the kind of car we are working on here so I will leave that alone and continue to focus on the negative. Lets look at what kind of tires the dealer/seller put on the car before you bought it. Are they a well known name brand? Are they cheap? How many miles total on the car and which corner sounds the loudest after the rotation?

a brand new car could drive strait down the road and one tire could be under inflated 6-9 psi and still cause minor cupping for 3k miles
