I give the guy points for style. He's not fucking trailer trash or chubby interns, this guy is nailing a South American broad. To risk all that for some trim, she'd better be amazing.

Quote :
"As others noted during his 2003 and 2007 gubernatorial campaigns (see update), in an essay Jindal wrote in 1994 for the New Oxford Review, a serious right-wing Catholic journal, Jindal narrated a bizarre story of a personal encounter with a demon, in which he participated in an exorcism with a group of college friends. And not only did they cast out the supernatural spirit that had possessed his friend, Jindal wrote that he believes that their ritual may well have cured her cancer.

Reading the article leaves no doubt that Jindal -- who graduated from Brown University in 1991, was a Rhodes Scholar, and had been accepted at Yale Law School and Harvard Medical School when he wrote the essay -- was completely serious about the encounter. He even said the experience "reaffirmed" his faith.

Jindal's affection for battling demons never surfaced during Jindal's failed run for governor in 2003 or his successful one in 2007. The state Dems did make an issue in 2007 out of Jindal's extreme Catholicism and his view of Protestant tenets as heretical, but the effort provoked a backlash among voters who thought the assault was religious bigotry. So Dems didn't make an issue out of Jindal's experiment.

But Jindal's battle with the dark forces may become an issue should his Veep candidacy proceed. While it's hardly a blockbuster revelation, it could provide fodder for bloggers and late-night comics to turn his candidacy into a media sideshow."

"Whenever I concentrated long enough to begin prayer, I felt some type of physical force distracting me. It was as if something was pushing down on my chest, making it very hard for me to breathe. . . Though I could find no cause for my chest pains, I was very scared of what was happening to me and Susan. I began to think that the demon would only attack me if I tried to pray or fight back; thus, I resigned myself to leaving it alone in an attempt to find peace for myself."

^ Wow.

Romney is the only one I see right now--he will obviously tout his business and economic experience. And he looks the part. But he certainly has his own unique set of challenges, and I have trouble believing much of anything he says--he just strikes me as a typical politician.

I supported Romney in this past election cycle, but I don't think he's going anywhere.

As I remember, Romney wasn't good enough for the white evangelical christian right... he had to make several speeches about his Mormon background. As far as I know, the evangelical right is STILL the bible bangin' evangelical right... and distancing themselves further and further from the base. The Republican party is going to be a no show in 2012.

so what is appealing about Romney aside from the fact that he has stayed out of trouble?

he basically did all but admit he switched position on everything from gay marriage to immigration to health care for the purpose of getting the nomination last time, and then he proceeded to buy his way to a few delegates. surely this is the future.

At least I know he has the balls to criticize Barry.

Well, maybe Hillary will do.

Romney? Really, in a postlogical world you really want to run that hairpiece against the rock-star?

Vanity Fair has a huge article on Palin. She's a megalomaniac apparently, but wouldnt this just make her a typical politician? It's a good thing she has nutty political positions too, because that alone wouldn't really have been enough to discount her.

you want to remind us of some of your logical beliefs? weren't you the guy who defended Bob Jones University's science curriculum?

Haley Barbour needs to run. He's got good credentials as a lobbyist and friend to the White Citizens Council of Mississippi.

Romney seems to be the front-runner. Sad that the Republicans' best hope is a Mormon (I don't care, but it's a big deal to a lot of people). Only person of that group I could see myself supporting, despite his opposition to abortion, is Ron Paul. Too bad since he's a real conservative he'd never be nominated.

Ron Paul winning would be the death of "libertarianism." If he got elected and actually tried to shut down the government and remove regulations on business, people would quickly see how nutty those ideas are, and never utter the "L" word again.

If any reasonable Libertarian plan were to be implemented in the US, it would have to involve either a complete re-write and overhaul of the Constitution (would never happen) or a gradual phase-down over multiple decades (would also never happen). Any attempt to massively decrease the size of the federal government within just one presidential term would be completely doomed to failure, regardless of the merit small-government philosophies may have... something too many RP supporters and Libertarian party members fail to realize. You can't just snap your fingers and make government programs disappear -- it would cause chaos.

Also, he needs to get off of that Gold Standard bullshit. Not only does it just detach him from all the voters that don't give a shit about it, but the premise it relies on isn't even remotely close to being solid (the idea that gold has some inherent level of value and not a value set by market prices and culture/society).

poll shows that Palin still has support of the Republicans, on par with Hillary at the same time before this past election.

I agree with everything you said after this statement, but this is so absurd it's fucking comedic. While a Libertarian and a Constitutionalist aren't necessarily the same thing, simply following the Constitution (neither circumventing it via the power of the purse nor flat-out ignoring it taking obscene liberty in the interpretation of it) would make for a pretty much Libertarian government (and for this reason, you see a lot of overlap between libertarians and strict constructionists).

^^With that I was more or less referring to adding additional restrictions on what, specifically, the government is not permitted to do... and essentially adding provisions to ensure that it is actually followed in practice. Besides that, a "new" Constitution would be much harder to completely ignore than an "old" Constitution.
