This thread is dedicated to all things sushi. Post here with your fav rolls and restaurants.

Volcano roll ftw

But my trainer won't let me do carbs, so sashimi is my only option at the moment.

I, too, appreciate my butt.

And sushi is awesome. It's like an orgasm in your mouth. Especially if you try a roll topped with quail egg.

I got a Dragon Roll the last time I went and it was fucking awesome.

I'm not sure if that is a standard roll, or just a specialty of this sushi place.

Best sushi in Raleigh

1. Kuki (very unkown, but the best for sure) - Falls Village
2. Waraji - Blueridge and Glenwood (voted number 1 every year by triangle.com)
3. Sono - upscale, Fayetteville st. (Mura in North Hills is the sister store)
4. Tokyo House - Celebration at Six Forks - very traditional tatami mats, very consistent
5. Shaba Shabu - Old Wake Forest rd. - crazy rolls

honorable mention: Sushi Thai, just because of the consistency and low prices. Sushi Blues is over ratted and shitty imo

Sono is great, they import fresh fish in everyday from Morehead City. My dad actually built this place so I've had a lot of free sushi there as well as specialty rolls that aren't on the menu so I may be biased but the cuts of the fish are incredible and the freshness is key. they also have rarer fish that you won't see at other restaurants like fatty tunu, white tuna, and rare game fish like cobia and wahoo.

The restaurant is owned by G. Patel, who also owns Mura, The Oxford and formerly Pi Bar (lol)

i have never had sushi

i don't fish for tuna. can you make it with any of the following?:

trout
flounder
drum
cobia
spanish or king mackerel

i'm wondering how these would taste raw. my guess is spanish and kings would be ok. maybe cobia.

Mmmmm, sushi!

FYI, for anyone in Greensboro, Wasabi FTW!

lucyinthesky, if you're a regular at one restaurant for sushi, see if they do cucumber rolls. Wasabi does a cucumber (riceless) tuna roll that's pretty fantastic. i've always wanted to ask to see if they would do other rolls like it, but i'm usually either intimidated, or more likely, i'm with a huge group and we're just ordering one big order, so it's a hassle.

Haven't been to carolina sushi and roll, I'll definitely check it out

^^^you can get mackerel at some restaurants, and like I said, Sono uses cobia some time.

never heard of trout or flounder though

^most restaurants call them "house cucumber rolls" or something

totally agree about sushi thai and sushi blues. i've only been to waraji 1x (was waay too $$) and sono a couple of times (actually is pretty reasonably priced for downtown fare) and i haven't tried the sushi @ shaba shabu, only their Thai.

i'll have to try #1 and 4. thanks for the tip!

on a side note, my new fav indian restaurant is Tower Indian Rest in Morrisville. YUM!!

^^ KUKI is fucking dank.

they have odd hours, so check online. My Dad and I have stopped by during the day or even for dinner and theyve been closed. They also have some of the best pork dumplings ever.
