csdozier = Tube Master exposed???
They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the Internet. And again, the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material. 7/1/2009 11:22:35 AM |

whats like the most bad ass acronym certification thing you can get? i see the cca takes 10 years but is there anything past that? 7/1/2009 1:19:55 PM |
csdozier All American 510 Posts user info edit post |
well the CCA is the top level cisco cert, and it was just announced..
I guess you can look at other vendors, Microsoft has a MCA, which is similar http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/architect.aspx
Otherwise, perhaps a Phd or masters

personally i like the CBT nuggets videos. they're a good starting point anyways and i usually watch the video then go through and setup a lab in boson netsim so i can do whatever he's doing in the video. i've also read through a Sybex CCNA book that you can find on some torrent sites and there's another program from Boson that you can also find a torrent on that has a few thousand practice questions.
pm me if you need/want more info 7/6/2009 8:15:43 AM |

oh, one other thought, I did do a lot of practice using dynamips/dynagen: http://dynagen.org/. I would recommend it for ccna/ccnp/or ccie(r&s/sp) 7/9/2009 9:19:51 PM |

passed it awhile ago actually. i don't know why you guys are so harsh. after i passed the CCNA, my other certs were a breeze (CWNA/CCNA-Wireless).
the CCNA is a bit more difficult than people who've passed it put on. when i passed it i used dynamips. dynamips are also helpful for passing the BSCI and ONT, which i passed with no problem after 2 months of passing the CCNA.
now i have BCMSN and ISCW and off to the R&S written. end goal December 2009. 7/9/2009 10:14:00 PM |

also I must note I never used testking or any braindumps. so for you guys that give me sh!t about the CCNA ... yeah I failed it a few times, but I eventually got over the hump.
the # 1 tip i'd give anyone is after you fail don't get discouraged and a take a break for a month or two. immediately start back studying the same day after the failed exam.
hope this helps anyone reading. and by no means should you pay any attention to the haters on thewolfweb .... 7/9/2009 10:18:12 PM |

yea i'm trying to go down the VoIP track. gotta get the ccna out of the way so i can do the ccna-voice which looks pretty damn easy. havent looked at the books for ccnpv yet though.. ccie voice is rare as shit. pretty big $$ associated with it but i doubt ill ever get that far 7/9/2009 10:58:29 PM |

a know a guy that completed CCIE-V. he gets paid massive cake. i passed IPT1 and failed IPT2 (642-456) twice. i should get it the next go around. i've deployed CCM 4X, UCM 5X, and 7X before. its not very difficult, but IPT2 ask for a lot of stuff regarding Secure RTP and PK1, etc. when doing hands on you just don't deal with that too much.
the CCVP 4X track (windows) is probably easier, but i wanted to stay current. for now i want to focus on completing the CCNP.
when you start testing in different tracks you lose focus. i failed the BCMSN twice and got discouraged and tried voice ... i'm back to studying switching again. i think i failed cause i relied on dynamips for CCNP stuff and there are no switches you can use in dynamips or GNS3. 7/10/2009 10:19:46 AM |
ScHpEnXeL Suspended 32613 Posts user info edit post |
I was wondering about the lack of managed switches in Dynamips.. I was hoping I was just doing it wrong. Guess not? i was just dl'ing a bunch of ios's hoping i could get it to work.
dammit 7/10/2009 11:15:50 AM |
Amsterdam718 All American 15134 Posts user info edit post |
there is a way to get around using switching in dynamips (i think). i think you can try adding a module with eth ports on it ... but even still it'd be limited.
if you want hands on to prepare for switching you'd need (3) switches and one of them would require layer 3 capabilities for doing vlan trunking, etc ... or you could try using a cheap WLAN controller like a WLC-2106 and trunk with SFP's to pass vlan info over the trunk.
the cheapest way would be getting a used 3550XL (3524) and (2) used 2950s. you could test spanning-tree, vlan trunking and port channel configs ... you can do this over cat5 cable, but it'd be awesome if you had some SFPs for gigE trunking.
the BCMSN was a pain in the ass ... i'll try again in 4-6 weeks. 7/10/2009 1:30:42 PM |

i've got some 3 old 1900 switches to use for now. and 3 2501 routers. not exactly top of the line but is hopefully better than nothing for at least getting a little hands on for the ccna. after that i'll sell all of this and buy better stuff 7/10/2009 2:06:05 PM |
BobbyDigital Thots and Prayers 41777 Posts user info edit post |
the only problem with those 1900 switches is that the interface/features are nothing like modern switches.. they don't even support dot1q trunking.
but, you probably don't really need switches for CCNA prep. 7/10/2009 2:18:38 PM |

You could use one of the emulators if you really needed to, but yeah probably unnecessary. 7/10/2009 2:24:49 PM |
ScHpEnXeL Suspended 32613 Posts user info edit post |
damn..didn't realize they didn't even support that
i bought them almost 2 years ago and had dropped the idea of doing cisco certs until recently. i just got a usb to serial adapter and was about to start playing with them again so i hadn't even realized yet what they did/didn't do.
guess maybe i'll just sell them and get something a little better at least.
any suggestions? 7/10/2009 2:25:54 PM |
BobbyDigital Thots and Prayers 41777 Posts user info edit post |
2950s are pretty cheap (under $100). they don't do layer 3 though. cheapest layer 3 switch you'll find is a 3550, but i don't think they go for any less than a few hundred bucks. 7/10/2009 2:34:48 PM |
