The open championship is only a couple of days away

Turnberry is set up as a par 70 approx 7200 yards

Notable Pairings:

9:09 Tiger, Lee Westwood, Ryo Ishikawa

I haven't heard much about Ishi except that he is a really young japanese phenom. It will be interesting to see how he handles playing with Woods in a major.

1:21 Rory McIllroy, AK, Grey Goosen

2:20 Harrington, Furyk, Ogilvy

WINNER:

I was hoping I could watch Tiger's round at work on thursday, since he tees off at 9:09. Too bad that's local time, so he tees off at 4:09am our time

this will make for some good wake up and watch some early morning golf this weekend though

Can we ban maximus from golf threads?

IMO this is Tiger's worst major.

I think Garcia might actually get over the hump and win at Turnberry.

can we ban people from golf threads with less than 3000 days? ridiculous isn't it?

that being said, go field. Eldrick is on the downslide....i hope.

okay pete chilcut, loved your career with golden state or sacremento or whoever drafted you.
love those late 80's early 90's carolina teams.

ugh.

too bad they don't allow the fans multiple codes of football in the British Isles to heckle eldrick. for once, just for once i wish that this "competitor" would allow that he has pretty much the same desire as say, tyler hansblow. then i would have a smack of respect for him.

nothing really. i just don't like tiger woods. i think he is a stuck up and that his shit don't stink. i'm sure i've said it before, but before we crown him as the greatest golfer ever, he needs to set all time marks for wins and championships.

it's fair to say it about other athletes only after they've done it, so the same should go for the golfer formarlly known as eldrick.

his disdain for others while playing is laughable. i mean, seriously, he can't take a little ribbing? and the swearing and the intensity? he is made out to be this superman, but apparantly saying "you suck tiger" is kryptonite for this guy. if he was so tough, wouldn't that roll right off his back.

anyway, i hope he misses the cut (even though he won't) and somebody from the other side of the pond wins their tourney. only fair.

how about he has the largest margin of victory in all 4 majors, the highest winning % in majors (of those who matter) and the lowest score in relation to par in all 4 majors. that do anything for you?

the right bower is always trump, but nice redundancy. and you're right, he doesn't have that yet. but does Jordan have the all time scoring record in the NBA? nooooope. Karl Fucking Malone scored more points than he did.

Look, as of now, I'm still putting the golden bear ahead of tiger, based not only on wins, but the fact that Jack also had 19 second place finishes in majors. But to say that Tiger shouldn't be in the discussion is absurd. The guy is 33 and still has another 7+ years of prime golfing ahead of him.

Like how "King" James has already been anoited as the "one" and this cat hasn't even won a championship yet....

So what if Tiger demands respect on the golf course, I think he has earned it. This is a traditional game of gentlemen, you don't see people yelling "you suck" at Federer when he is about to serve do you?

look at ol' Tom Watson

trying to get another major in there... I don't know if he can keep it up for 4 rounds, but damn... -5 for a 59 yr old with all these kids- Impressive!

of course, he does like the British Open- he has won it 5 times. But the amazing thing is, the first time he did it was 34 years ago!

is it just me or does anyone else notice this trend with Tiger? I don't know, but it seems to me that he never gets off to good starts in majors anymore.

does anyone else think that maybe he plays too conservative and doesn't just let his talent come out most of the time? (shows the course too much respect) I know it makes almost no sense to ever question anything he does because he will just make you look stupid for even thinking it. However, he always seems to be playing from way behind in the majors lately. Maybe he is getting closer to Jack's record and is trying too hard or something.

He is now (+1) for his opening round this week and this course is playing really easy.

I wish I could have seen some of that Tom Watson round DAMN! He loves this championship and the people over there recognize that and have a lot of respect for Watson.

Tiger hit it in the water on #16 then saved bogey off of the tee box at #17. He better get his ass in gear or risks getting left back in the pack like Bethpage.

british open golf clap ftw

i always fully expect to see him trailing after the first couple days, make a late charge on saturday, and then turn it on sunday. that's just how he does it now

that isn't how he used to do it. not even three or four years ago. he might be trailing after day one but he would be right in it by the end of friday and then just not make mistakes like everyone else on the weekend. i don't know what the problem is but he seems to get so far behind now that he has no shot.

The thing about Tiger is even when he looks like he is playing like complete shit he still somehow manages to end up in the top 5 or so most of the time.

Bets I made

Tiger finishes outside of the top two (-160)

Sergio finishes 19 or better ( -120)

exactly; this to me is more amazing than the fact that he wins all the time and is going to break and fly by jack's record. i say he ends up with at least 24 majors (that is only ten more and he is now in his golfing "prime")

i have just noticed that he has been getting off to really bad starts in majors the past couple of years. and he has said himself you can't win on thursday but you can lose it. he seems to be losing them on thursday the past few majors.

I don't know of a video stream, but the official site has a pretty good scoreboard coverage, and a link to live radio. I know that's not what you're looking for, but thought you could use it in the interim.

The weather is getting up now

Tiger just had a nice sandy on #5. If he can get in the clubhouse -1 for the tournament or some anywhere under par really, he will be in good shape going into the weekend.

Def pulling for Steve Marino as well. It's really cool to see players like him doing well on the big stage.
