I'm looking at F-150's, and want to make sure I get a fair (low) price.
Also, any semi-local dealers that sell F-150's that anyone has bought from that might be better than others? 7/18/2009 4:02:37 PM |

i'll be glad to shoot you my dad's phone number and let him talk to you about the new f150 he got last year after i tried to talk him out of it, it spent more time in the shop than on the road, and after 6 months, he made the dealer buy it back under the lemon law, went through 3 transmissions and a rear end from pulling less than a 2k# trailer, and got horrible mileage, about 9 mpg, with no power, you couldn't keep it in overdrive at 70 on a hill on the interstate empty
if you are looking for a cheap truck and you dont need to tow anything, dont drive long distances or very often and dont need to haul anything, then there you go, but then why the hell do you even need a truck in that case 7/18/2009 7:40:05 PM |

How about 12 years experience as a mechanic that has worked on everything, including the last three generations of F-150's? But whatever man, be like DNL if you want to and don't take any advice from someone that knows a lot more than you ever will on the subject. 7/19/2009 9:20:01 AM |

i don't know what being like DNL means, but so far you haven't offered any advice... just telling me F150's suck without giving me any alternatives.7/19/2009 3:51:11 PM |

obviously the alternative is a GM product. regardless of their current financial shape, they make better trucks.
and the being like dnl statement means doing exactly what everyone is telling you not to do, and for good reason.
he's right, listen to him. 7/19/2009 4:30:47 PM |

are you planning on keeping it a while? if so the resale value and reliability of a chevy or gmc is well worth the cost, if you arent even sure you need a truck and probably wont keep it long once you get tired of it, go with whatever is cheaper

I got an 09 F150 back in March and love it. I had a 95 F150 and a 01 F150 before that, had over 180,000 on the 95 and put it through hell when I was younger, and sold the 01 with 85,000; didn't have any trouble whatsoever with either one.
I've always been partial to F-150's, but to be honest, you'll get a pretty decent 1/2 ton whether you go F-150, Silverado, or even Tundra. I'm never been a big fan of the Fiat Ram, mostly due to resale, but really it's personal preference. I'd love to be biased and spout off horror stories from this friend or that family member about how other truck makes and models are horrible and you'll surely be forever screwed if you buy one, but it's not really that true anymore.
Here's my F-150, if you want to see pictures of what I got. (and if you do look at them, just to clarify: yes, the tail lights were ugly but now I've fixed them, and I get 17.8 city and 20.5 hwy)

I got it for about 23% off MSRP. I tried the local Raleigh dealers and had to go to Fayetteville to get the deal I wanted. Let me know if I can help you out.

^Tow 21' Malibu wakeboard boat, Dad's 19' Bass boat, campers, my Toyota rock crawler (truggy), popup (no big deal there). The cover is a tri-fold, so i can haul building materials and landscape materials easily, take trash to the dump, etc.. Also, the cover takes less than 2 minutes to remove or install, easy to store, and it's light enough to hold with one hand. The cover is great for camping, wakeboarding, and snowboarding trips. Also we can throw all of our junk back there for trips w/o having to worry about rain/wind, and then the dog can have the whole back of the cab (eventually kids). You'll also notice I got the largest possible bed for the crew cab. I'm wary of anybody with a 5.5' or less bed. 7/21/2009 1:11:28 PM |

Frankly, I would avoid the Dodge or anything else Chrysler makes. Unfortunately, they don't stand behind their vehicles. I had a Pacifica and in less than 100K 3 transmissions and 2 transfer cases, plus numerous starting issues, such as it just wouldn't for now reason. Tried to sell it back to them as a lemon, but no, they all are like that, so not a lemon, just a bad design. When they went to the life time warrenty, they would not extend on the existing vehicle. Should have let them go under. I used to own 3 chryslers, but am down to one due to attrituion. I will never buy another Chrysler product. Now that they are working with FIAT, I think that goes double. If you have one and are happy with it, consider yourself lucky. 7/22/2009 2:10:12 PM |
