I thought it went well, for the most part. I think I really got spoiled the last time I saw them because it was at Koka Booth, where they played for 2 and a half hours for 7000 people. But at HOB, they played for about an hour and a half and played from a pretty good mix of their albums. The crowd was great when it was songs they knew, but did talk a lot during the slower/less recognizable ones. When Seth played/sang Black, Blue, you couldn't even hear the words because of everyone talking. But the people around me were very respectable and didnt talk during the slow ones. One guy behind me even asked for advice on a few albums to buy since he had never heard of them before.

The one thing I was really bummed about was the encore. As I said, the crowd was getting into it, so I expected a really awesome encore. However, they came out and played one song, and it Perfect Space, which isn't a hugely popular song. So basically nobody knew the words and we were waiting on a second song of something very familiar like Die, Die, Die (which they didn't play). But then they just ended, which was kind of a disappointment.

However, any Avett Brothers show is a good one, at least in my experience. Now I really want to go to the one in Charlotte, except for the assigned seating crap.

Anyway, I found the Set List from Friday night. Here it is, if you were wondering:

Quote :
"Laundry Room
Paranoia in B Major
I Killed Sally's Lover
Murder in the City
Kick Drum Heart
Down with the Shine
The Weight of Lies
Distraction #74
Go to Sleep
Skin and Bones
Wanted Man
Black, Blue
Salina
I Would Be Sad
Please Pardon Yourself
St. Josephs
Pretty Girl from Annapolis
Salvation Song
Colorshow

Encore:
The Perfect Space"

not a bad set. seems a little on the slow side and I can totally see some of the examples where casual fans wouldnt be familiar with the songs.

I think I'm going to pass on it. I really want to because I think you will be able to get an advance release of their album at that show only. But i'm not thrilled about seeing them at Bojangles Arena.

They canceled the advance release, actually. As a consolation, everyone in attendance will get a five track live EP and a poster or something.

I think they did play Die, Die, Die the second night.

I liked the setlist better Friday, but the encore was better Saturday. It was weird because the encore from the first night was the second song played on Saturday. strange. They also repeated about 5 songs between the two nights.

Two good shows though, IMO.

Saturday's setlist:

At The Beach
The Perfect Space
The Fall
Left on Laura, Left on Lisa
PGf Matthews
Shame
Die Die Die
Dream Appointed
Will You Return
Old Joe Clark
Swept Away
How I Got To Memphis
Bella Donna
Kick Drum Heart
I & Love & You
PGf Chile
November Blue
Go To Sleep

Enc.
Late In Life
My Last Song To Jenny
Paranoia

Wow, that actually makes me even more happy that I went on Friday and not Saturday. Besides the encore, of course.

Anybody have any recordings of this show?

I'm really interested in hearing how they did "Old Joe Clark." And no offense to any of their fans here, but I bet the banjo solo on that was horrific...

man that's a pretty awesome set list right there. I bet swept away with Bonnie was awesome.

i know they said this was their "only 09 charlotte show" but they say that every summer. Did they give any hints to another NYE downtown show at all?

Bonnie's mic was turned up way too high at the start of Swept Away, and she sounded kinda rattled after that.

They didn't give any indication of a NYE show that I remember.

You can listen to the entire new album legally, online, and for free.

yeah I know it's been out for a while, but this is free and much easier to access.

pretty good. can't wait for my box set to arrive.
