probably not unusual, for you folks in NC... but:
(1) i live on the west coast. no one's ever heard of TWW here.
(2) i used to be able to log in for the past year.
(3) all of a sudden it's now blacklisted and blocked with the standard reporting page

they probably have thousands of lines of logs of messages like that, that no one ever looks at. 7/25/2009 1:11:40 PM |

you are so screwed......
I mean, getting caught going to sites like this one, at work, on a saturday.......
yeah, they're going to put you on double secret probation or something
and, no one looks at those logs unless there is a performance issue. At work, I've had ad's blocked from legitimate sites (NY Times, etc).

well, actually, it started being blocked since last week.
i seem to run afoul of the filter off and on, but ive never seen TWW blocked.
i cant imagine anyone ELSE causing this site to come up on corporate IT radar. 7/25/2009 1:48:54 PM |

how big is your IT dept?
i'm a little concerned that my workplace is gonna shut me down at some point too. lord knows i register more pageviews here than any other single site in the whole company

doubt you are introuble. But I wouldnt push it.

Thats why its blocked. They probably have a scanner, more than one hits it turns on, sees that and auto blocks it.7/25/2009 3:12:42 PM |

pretty freaking huge i imagine.
actually i work at a subsidiary on West Coast, but main corporate is in the Midwest. theres a total of some 50K employees worldwide, and the corporate IT handles everyone.
so i guess it's not unreasonable that they might see hits going to TWW from other than me.

yeah, until it's found out, too

my workplace has a block which only appears to work in IE I figure I'd best not ask such questions given my overlords' aversion to the use of any browser than IE 7/25/2009 4:30:24 PM |

Yeah, IE has some settings you can mess with to block shit.. that's not a very smart way to do it but def one of the easiest.

As in your IT department doesn't go to every website ever made and decide what you can and cannot have access to. I just assumed there was an outside firm that specialized in web filtering. I guess not.

A lot of proxies IT departments use do download filtering addresses from any number of central sources, so yes, bobster, it does work that way to a point.
I'm not sure that TWW would be on any of those centralized databases, but it could be... 7/25/2009 10:32:19 PM |

I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of IT dept's subscribe to standard and large filtersets run by third parties

That's why I have Remote Desktop. There's a nice weakly-encrypted connection over which I can browse/post TWW if I need a 5-minute break.7/26/2009 9:01:21 AM |

If they block brentroad.com next, simply try entering the IP itself: 208.79.80.203. Lots of IT guys forget to block the IP too. 7/27/2009 2:33:58 PM |
