General Features

SA-HT920 Main Unit: The SA-HT920 is the "control center" of the system and includes a 5-disc carousel-style DVD/CD changer with a built-in Dolby Digital/DTS decoder and digital AM/FM tuner. The main unit connects to (and receives power from) the subwoofer/amplifier via a system cable.

Center Focus: Using this feature, you can make the sound of the center channel seem like it's coming from the TV.

Multi Rear Surround: The MRS mode makes it seem like sound is coming from multiple rear surround speakers, by electronically adding an additional pair of virtual surround speakers.

Virtual Rear Surround: This mode is useful if you have to place your surround speakers near the front speakers due to the layout of the room. The VRS mode makes it seem like the sound from the surround speakers is coming from behind you.

Down-mixing: You can output the down-mixed 2-channel signals when necessary (when recording music recorded in 5.1-channel, for example).

Custom Sound Memory: You can store the following sound settings for up to 30 discs so the unit recalls them the next time the disc is played: Subwoofer Level, Center Focus, Sound Field Control, and Super Surround.

Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the unit off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer can be set to 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.

DVD Features

Video D/A Converter: This player uses a 54MHz/10-bit video digital-to-analog converter. This high-bit, high sampling D/A converter helps to reduce digital artifacts to give you a better picture.

Audio D/A Converter: This unit includes an audio digital-to-analog converter capable of providing 192kHz/24-bit and 96kHz/24-bit resolution. The 192kHz/24-bit and 96kHz/24-bit capabilities of this unit allow it to play DVD Video discs with 96kHz/24-bit audio tracks and DVD-Audio discs with sampling rates of 192kHz.

Progressive Scan Output: Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. The component outputs on this unit can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.

Multi-Channel DVD-Audio Playback: DVD-Audio is a multi-channel format used for high resolution audio recording. This unit can decode and play DVD-Audio discs with a sampling rate up to 192kHz with a 24-bit word length.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3/WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level2 format. MP3 files with a compression rate from 32-320 kbps and WMA files with a compression rate from 48-320 kbps are supported. This unit can recognize a maximum of 999 tracks and 99 groups. Note: This unit is not compatible with ID3 tags.

JPEG Disc Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level2 format. All JPEG files on a disc can be played back in a slide show. The slide show has an adjustable interval from 0-30 seconds. Additionally, you can rotate an image 90-degrees clockwise. This unit can recognize up to 4000 pictures and 400 groups. Picture resolution varies from 320 x 240 to 6144 x 4096.

HighMAT Disc Playback: HighMAT stands for High Performance Media Access Technology. Co-developed by Panasonic and Microsoft, HighMAT was designed to significantly improve interoperability for digital media content between PCs and popular electronics devices such as CD players, car stereos and DVD players. HighMAT is a digital-media standard that provides a dramatically improved method of storing, arranging and playing back personal digital photo, music and video collections on recordable discs such as CD-RW media. HighMAT discs are compatible with this unit.

Dialogue Enhancer: The Dialogue Enhancer increases the center channel volume (relative to other channels), making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand. Dialogue Enhancer is available when playing Dolby Digital, DTS, and MPEG soundtracks recorded in 3 or more channels with the dialogue recorded in the center channel.

Multi Re-master: This feature increases the data density in CD or DVD signals to reproduce even high-frequency sounds outside the audible range, creating incredible sound quality. It can also be used in conjunction with compressed formats like MP3 and WMA to compensate for signal loss, giving you a full, rich sound. There are three levels of this effect: Light (for high tempo music), Medium (for varying tempos), and Strong (for low tempo music), plus "off."

Picture Mode: You can choose one of the following picture mode settings:

* Normal: normal picture
* Cinema 1: mellows images and enhances detail in dark scenes
* Cinema 2: sharpens images and enhances detail in dark scenes
* Animation
* Dynamic
* User: allows you to adjust the following settings: contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, gamma, and depth enhancer

Variable Zoom Function: Using this function, you can change the zoom ratio of the picture, so the picture fills the television screen. The zoom ratio changes from 1.00 to 1.60 in increments of 0.01 and from 1.60 to 2.00 in increments of 0.02. For faster zoom speed, press and hold the zoom button to increase the size by 0.05 units. You may also select an automatic zoom ("Just Fit" zoom), which automatically zooms in until the screen is filled.

Quick Replay: Quick Replay allows you to jump back a few seconds during playback just in case you missed something, or want to see it again.

Position Memory: This function lets you eject a disc part way through a movie, and then resume watching from the same point later. This information can be stored for up to five discs.

CD Mode: The CD mode feature is very convenient if you want to play several music CDs sequentially. When activated, the player skips any DVD or JPEG discs, playing only CDs and MP3/WMA discs.

Speakers

SB-WA920 Active Subwoofer: The SC-HT920 features an active subwoofer with built-in amplification for all of the speakers. The subwoofer uses a 4-ohm, 7-7/8" cone woofer in a bass-reflex enclosure. The woofer is covered by a non-removable silver metal grille. The subwoofer inputs include a jack for the AC power cord and the proprietary system cable. (The main unit receives power from the subwoofer through the system cable.) The subwoofer also has spring clip outputs for the front, center and surround speakers.

"Tall Boy" Front Speakers: The SB-PF920 front speakers have dual 6-ohm, 2-1/2" cone woofers and a 2-3/8" ring-shaped dome tweeter in a bass-reflex enclosure. Each enclosure is covered by a non-removable silver metal grille. The speakers are designed to be mounted on the supplied speaker stands. (They cannot stand alone on a table or shelf.) There are two pairs of 5mm (M5) threaded inserts for use with the supplied stands or optional wall mount brackets (two per speaker recommended). There are also two keyhole slots on the back for mounting directly to a wall (hardware not supplied). Dimensions without stands: Height: 21-5/8", Width: 3-5/8", Depth: 3-7/16", Weight: 3.1 pounds

Speaker Stands: The system includes two height-adjustable stands for the front speakers. The front speakers have an upper and a lower set of threaded inserts for attaching the speakers to the stands. Using the lower set of threaded inserts, the height of the speakers can vary from 44-13/16" to 38". Using the upper set of threaded inserts, the height of the speakers can be set between 31-5/16" and 24-9/16". Each stand includes an 18-1/4' length of speaker wire, which has been threaded into the stand. The base is 9-7/16" in diameter. The front speakers, when mounted on the stands, weigh 9.3 pounds each.

Center Channel Speaker: The SB-PC920 Center Channel speaker has two 6-ohm 2-1/2" cone woofers and a 2-3/8" ring-shaped dome tweeter in a bass-reflex enclosure. The enclosure is covered by a non-removable silver metal grille. There are two 5mm (M5) threaded inserts on the back of the speaker for use with optional stands or wall brackets. In addition, there are 2 keyhole slots provided for horizontal wall mounting.

"OmniCast" Surround Speakers: The trapezoidal-shaped surround speakers (SB-PS920) feature an up-firing 6-ohm 2-1/2" cone woofer and an up-firing 2-3/8" ring-shaped dome tweeter in a bass-reflex enclosure. The drivers and grilles are configured to provide the widest possible sound dispersion. The enclosure is covered by a non-removable silver metal grille, plus a narrow cloth grille for the upper portion of the enclosure. The speakers are designed to be placed on a shelf or a stand, or wall-mounted. There are two 5mm (M5) threaded inserts for use with optional wall-mount brackets or optional stands. There is a keyhole slot on the rear for wall mounting as well.

Video-shielding: All of the speakers, including the subwoofer, are video-shielded, allowing them to be placed near your television without causing picture distortion.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

Line Inputs/Outputs: This unit features three pairs of stereo RCA audio inputs (VCR Audio In, TV Audio In and AUX). In addition, the unit has line output for sending analog audio to a cassette deck for recording. There are no video inputs on this unit.

Optical Digital In: There is one optical digital input, allowing you to connect a digital satellite system. The built-in Dolby Digital decoder can decode the Dolby Digital bitstream from digital broadcasts so they can be enjoyed in surround.

Headphone Jack: The main unit features a 3.5mm (1/8") mini-jack headphone output on the front panel for private listening. When headphones are used, the speakers are muted.
