Boobs are more sensitive than usual, and she's a little hormonal lately and she has slight cravings. Test came up negative, but then again it is too early according to instructions.
Someone enlighten me here and tell me what she needs to look for? Or what kinds of experience did your wife go through.

you did also ask about experiences our wives went through.
ok, so to better answer that question:
She had no idea she was pregnant until one day we were at a friend's mom's house, and she asked my wife if she was pregant. My wife asked her why she thought she was pregnant, and the friend's mom said she was "glowing"
whatever the fuck that means.
So then she started getting all neurotic on it. I swear we spent hundreds of dollars on pregnancy tests, and a few weeks later there was the faintest trace of a +
then every day after that the +'s got stronger. Yeah, so she was definitely pregnant.
but other than her friend's mom putting the idea in her head, there were no signs. the cravings didn't come till she was 4-5 months into it. she coulda been hormonal. But at that point, it wasn't really possible to distinguish 'hormonal' from 'bitchy because of the shittiness of med school'

My friend said her mom knew she was pregnant because she was taking naps in the middle of the day (my friend had no idea she was pregnant until 5 weeks along, but when she told her mom, she said she already knew) 8/8/2009 4:35:14 PM |

my wife did the peeing on sticks thing for a while and they all came up negative. She went probably three weeks to a month without having her period and decided to go see her OB/GYN to see if something was wrong that stopped her from having her period on time. While she was getting tested she asked the nurse to add a pregnancy test to the list that they tested for. Turns out the pregnancy test from the ob/gyn came back positive and now the baby is due in december.
When she got home from work the day we found out the test results she peed on a stick again and it came up positive, go figure.
moral of the story is, if shes late on her period and is normally pretty regular, shes probably pregnant. I dont think there were any other symptoms that early on, they didnt come until she was a good month into the pregnancy... 8/8/2009 6:29:18 PM |

Well, bloating is a huge thing in the beginning and boobs being bigger. That's really the only two major symptoms I had in the very, very beginning. But those are also symptoms you get along with your period, so that might not be a big help.
If she's really curious, go get your blood drawn. Like ^^ said, that's how I found out! I even took the at home test 2 nights before the Drs appointment and it still said negative. So was pretty surprised (happily!) the blood test came back positive. 8/8/2009 10:58:26 PM |

I found out that I was pregnant before I even missed my period. We were trying to get pregnant, so I invested in a million pregnancy tests and tested like crazy. Honestly, I went from a negative pregnancy test one day to a positive pregnancy test the next day.
When I was pregnant, I drank water constantly. I just couldn't quench my thirst. Obviously, I went to the bathroom to pee every 5 minutes. And I vomited from like the early months of my pregnancy until I had the baby.
All of the things that you listed are typical pregnancy symptoms, BUT they're also symptoms of PMS. 8/9/2009 7:43:04 AM |

it's a well known fact that women during the first three weeks of pregnancy have a slight aroma of cinnamon about their vaginal opening
the human nose is about 10 times more effective at detecting the enzyme that produces this smell than the average birth control test

i didn't start feeling sick or getting tired till about 4 weeks (i tested negative at 3 weeks, but tested positive a week later). soon after that came the uber tender boobies and bloating.
but honestly every woman is different. someone i know is exactly at the same point as me, but no symptoms except maybe 1 day of nausea and some fatigue. she's JUST starting to show at 20 weeks. meanwhile, i've had every stereotypical ailment and i'm a whale. 8/9/2009 5:28:36 PM |

FYI - those pregnancy tests at the dollar store work just as well as the $10 ones. Stock up b/c you know she'll be going through at least 2 a day until she either gets her period or a couple positive ones in a row. 8/9/2009 10:31:11 PM |

Read and learn.
Choice quotation from amazon.com review of the book I suggested:
Quote : | "This is the most informative, positive, and non-scary pregnancy book I've read. Every other pregnancy book I've read (including What to Expect When You're Expecting) made me cry after every paragraph as it detailed all the horrible things that a woman can do to permanently damage her baby, all the awful ways a woman's body will be disfigured by pregnancy and childbirth,..." |
Just sayin'. If you want your wife to be paranoid of all the crazy outside-of-the-realm-of-chance shit that could happen during her pregnancy, then by all means.
Also, do yourself a favor and invest in whatever edition of Baby Bargains is current when you're buying shit for your spawn.
Oh, and buy this for your wife if she has a sense of humor. http://www.amazon.com/Sippy-Cups-Are-Not-Chardonnay/dp/1416915060/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1250097135&sr=1-1

^^ I think the father should buy "What to Expect", and keep it locked up away from the mother unless there's a compelling reason to look up a particular symptom. It's not all bad, but not the best thing for a hormone-addled woman to fall asleep reading.
I loved this book and give it to any pregnant woman with a sense of humor: http://www.amazon.com/Girlfriends-Guide-Pregnancy-Vicki-Iovine/dp/141652472X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-2382630-0293248?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1186427056&sr=8-2
Oh, and congratulations! Any little line in the second spot is a positive.
