Tougher than I thought. When I get the urge, I just start typing on here and hopefully I'll get distracted long enough for the urge to pass. 8/11/2009 10:34:42 AM |

Almonds and Pistaccios are also good distractors.
Tried those pills, but not so good for me. 8/11/2009 10:38:01 AM |

Chantix is really dangerous, but then again smoking is too.
I guess committing suicide successfully because of Chantix induced depression would be better than dying slowly with rotting lungs, stroke, heart attack, etc. 8/11/2009 10:47:04 PM |

tomorrow actually marks one year since I've even had a drag off a cigarette.
I think the simplest thing to do is just convince yourself "it's not something I do anymore" I think that smoking isn't so much the nicotine (you're physically dependent 48 hours or average) it's the small habits or rituals you form like "morning cigarette", "after food cigarette", "bedtime cigarette" etc. that are the toughest to break. Cold turkey is the way to go. As long as you can get your mind of the very fact that you're quitting you'll be fine, you just can't dwell on it. Do it after a particularly heavy night of smoking or sickness when you don't even feel like smoking if you need to.
^^I have absolutely no desire to have a cigarette and probably wouldn't date somebody who smokes now. You notice how rotten people who smoke smell when you quit. food tastes better, you (obviously) can do more aerobic activity (even going up 3 flights of stairs had me winded), no more coughing shit up in the shower, having your hands smell like shit, etc. To be honest, I have dreams that I accidentally smoke when I'm drunk and I wake up with this horrible guilty feeling til I realize it was a dream.
tough it out, it really is so worth it and you'll be proud of yourself for doing it
[no offense to smokers or any support of the new tobacco laws which are whack imo]

i ate peanuts and m&ms (and sometimes peanut m&ms) religiously while i was quitting.
i gained like 20 lbs, but it came off easy enough once i was able to run/bike without hacking my lungs up
hang in there! 8/14/2009 11:01:02 PM |

It's been exactly 4 and a half months since my last cigarette. I agree it's hard as hell to do. As ncsu said, just set your mind that this is something you don't do anymore, and don't dwell on it. If you dwell, it's 10 times harder. It's also not easy when people around you smoke. My boyfriend still does, and it's a cold day in hell when I let him smoke in my car or join him to sit outside when he's smoking. Not much you can do at the bars though except keep your willpower strong. 8/15/2009 9:57:27 AM |

i haven't even been to a bar since i quit. i'm not sure i could handle it.

hopefully it won't get banned in bars imo but the key is to not dwell, and don't create an excuse to smoke like "I got fired today",etc. which sucks, but you don't smoke anymore so you don't think of it as a resort because all it takes is one
the first couple of months are tough but it gets to where you don't even notice it around you and if you do its just to like get it away from you haha hard to comprehend probably right now but it gets really easy 8/16/2009 2:16:07 AM |

i haven't quit yet but i smoke less than 1 a day by associating it with activities i only do rarely. i don't really have cravings and would imagine that i could quit the last bit fairly easily, but i don't really feel a need to. 8/16/2009 7:23:03 AM |

when you get the urge just remember how you are gonna feel right before you die earlier than you should have and say damn if i didnt smoke all those years i would have prolly been alive for at least 5 more years. Then remember back in grammar school on how not to make run on sentences 8/26/2009 3:11:18 AM |

Quit Janury 1 of '09. It helped me that smoking is illegal in bars in Columbia, SC. However, I'm definitely still a 'smoke if I go out' kinda smoker. But, consdering that I only go out like once every two weeks, it's not that bad 8/26/2009 8:51:49 AM |
