So I'm about to need new tires for my car.

Are Kumhos really shitty? Because that's what I can afford. I'm looking at getting Kumho Ecsta ASX's--recommended by tirerack.com

Don't even suggest Pirellis--I know they're the best, but I obviously can't afford those. It came with Yokohamas--they've been fine, but they're really loud.

Any input or experience you have with these tires will be greatly appreciated.

im gonna save you the time and tell you just to search the tire threads, kumhos are not gonna be bad tires, the good thing about the asx is that it has the rim saver edge so if you hit scrub a curb you wont fuck the wheels up to bad. also look at the nexen line. if you want the best tire for that price range look for the Falken line. yes they are a little bit more but they are a better tire.

im just gonna go ahead and assume you dont beat on your car.

By beat on it do you mean run into stuff? Because I run into stuff pretty often...particularly those horseshoe shaped things at gas stations that prevent you from hitting the tanks--I'm really thankful for those.

I don't hit curbs as much as your average girl though (sorry dykes who are going to get offended by this)

I've run Kumhos for years with good results. True, they don't have the life of something like Michelin, but at half the price, who the hell cares? I've never run Falken, so I don't know how good they are.

For years I ran Kelly Springfield tires on my Teg, and I really liked them. For the record, K-S makes a LOT of tires, many of them rebranded as store brands (my first set was from Farm Bureau, my others were Penske's house brand back when they were actually in the car care business). K-S also makes a lot of tires for other manufacturers like Goodyear at their Fayetteville plant.

You don't need anything special for what you're doing, so I wouldn't even look twice at the big name brands unless they're on clearance somewhere.

Kumhos seem fine on subies. I haven't heard anything bad about them. Most people buy them for their value, not performance. So, don't expect too much from them.


Stay away from the cheaper Falken's (anything less than $80). They won't last long on your Subie. And when I say they 'won't last long', I mean only a year. That's about how long my Falken Azenis' lasted on my WRX (daily driving with perfect alignment). Got Falken to give me a whole new set, but still only lasted a year. I'm theorizing that it has something to do with AWD that the Falken tread patterns don't mesh well with.

I've been running Pirelli's Nero Pzero's and they've lasted me 3 years now. 10x better than stock, 50x quieter, and worth every penny. I'll probably need to get new ones before the winter shows up though. Gonna go with the highly touted Potenza RE960as PP's.

I'm theorizing you don't know what you're talking about. It's not an AWD thing. The Azenis is a barely DOT approved semi-race tire. It's made to be sticky as hell; not long lasting. It's mostly for auto-x guys who want to run in a street tire class or guys who want a DOT approved tire to drive to the track on. I knew one guy who went through several sets at 8k-10k miles per set on a Type R Integra...Not a car that's really known for wearing out tires quickly.

If you want a cheap Falcon that will last a while buy the Ziex 912. If you want sticky go with the Azenis, but don't expect them to last long.
