I believe waves may have had some influence in this car's design.
Really though, what a curvy car. Pretty too.
There an MSRP out about this car yet? Not that I'd have any chance of affording it. 8/14/2009 11:03:48 PM |

All the info out so far points to about 400 hp in the M56, not 450 hp. We just have to wait for official figures to come out.
I don't know why they have to resort to the QX56 engine. The FX50 engine already makes 390 hp (as opposed to QX56's 315?), and getting a few ten more hp out of it would be no problem. Not to mention, the name M50 looks and sounds way better than M56.
I like the styling... the rear looks a bit like the Jaguar XF, which is not a bad thing.
It is a shame the GS460 makes 342 hp as opposed to 380 hp in the LS460 (same motor), but when the GS-F comes out, this car will be toast.
What Infiniti really needs to make is a G50 with the engine from the FX50, and tune it to about 420-450 hp to compete with the IS-F. 8/22/2009 7:25:18 PM |
nacstate All American 3785 Posts user info edit post |
that could be part of the plan. First you make the standard sedan, see how it does, then you put out the performance model. How many years was the IS out before they made an IS-F?*

definitely a gangsta ass whip, but Lexus will wipe the floor with them like they always do. Sales and demand are always way lower for the infiniti models in that class. just look at the depreciation of the top end Infiniti's (Q and now M) compared to the comparable Lexus LS 400/430/450 . 9/23/2009 3:19:31 PM |

I don't know where you're getting your figures from, but from the way you worded that post it doesn not seem to be a fair comparison. The M45 is supposed to compete with the LS (like the old Q) and I presume the M35 is supposed to compete with the GS. you can't add their sales together and say that they beat the GS. i'd like to see a breakdown by models sold. 9/23/2009 3:52:37 PM |

I think M's are more aimed at 5 Series, not a Lexus barge. 9/23/2009 4:27:40 PM |

Quote : | "he M45 is supposed to compete with the LS (like the old Q) and I presume the M35 is supposed to compete with the GS." |
Not true. The GS also comes in two vastly different flavours like the M:
8 cyl: M45 (now M56) competed/competes with GS 460 (GS 430 before that) 6 cyl: M35 (now M37) competed/competes with GS 350 (GS 300 before that)
While someone shopping around might consider both the M45 and the LS 460 (old LS 430), the M45 is not really aimed at the LS, whether you look at it from the price, performance, amenities, or dimensions angles. The LS is way more expensive, like $15,000 more at least, a ton more luxurious, and a lot smoother, unlike the M, which is "performance luxury".
Since the demise of the Q45, Infiniti makes no competitor to the LS. And I doubt they will resurrect the Q.
Quote : | "Infiniti sold more Ms from 2006 - 2009 than Lexus sold GSs" |
Not believable in the least. Source? There is a Lexus GS on every street corner. The Infiniti M is way less common.

Entry level (G35, 3 series, TL, C-class, A4, ES350, IS350) Midsized Level (M35/45, 5 series, RL, E-Class, A6, GS) Full size level (blank, 7 series, blank, S-class, A8, LS)
Infiniti was the brand that was supposed to have plush interiors like Jaguar with BMW performance. Lately its been interior like a Nissan and performance like a BMW, due to cost cutting.
Acura nor Infiniti has a true flagship sedan. The Q45 lost its way a long time ago (1997 to be exact). Without a true flagship they will never been considered a Tier-1 luxury division. Thats right its "social classes" amonst luxury cars, lol! At one point I think Acura considered the NSX its flagship car.
April 2006 Sales – Midsize Luxury Sedans:
E = 3,778 5 = 3,699 M = 2,417 GS = 2,336 STS = A6 = 1,555 RL = 1,031

I was at the dealership the other day and looked at some of the 2010 Gs, didn't like the new grill in person. I've never been a fan of foglights though. Took a look at the convertible G as well, initially didn't like it, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it. I may do some test driving when I have the nav system updated next week. 12/4/2009 11:44:41 PM |

M37S and M56S First Drive.
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/01/2011-infiniti-m37s-m56s-first-drive/
Quite a good read. Comes with tons of new technology. Interesting excerpt:
Quote : | "Back to all those buttons. The new M, like the old M, is simply dripping with technology. We'd need an Infiniti M-sized owners manual worth of space to explain them all. Instead, we'll cover our favorites. Forest Air is Infiniti's attempt to make air conditioning luxurious once more. Essentially, Forest Air (depicted by a button covered with trees) oscillates the speed of the air coming out of the vents. It's supposed to mimic a fresh breeze and therefor be more refreshing. While Forest Air sounds absolutely gimmicky, we really enjoyed it in practice.
Next, we've got Active Trace Technology, also known as ACT. Like a lot of new automotive technologies coming on line these days, ACT is yet another way to utilize the ABS. For you racing types, think of it as automatic trail braking. For the rest of you, ACT selectively unbrakes certain wheels depending on the angle of the steering wheel. In theory this allows you to transition out of corners faster and more smoothly. In practice, when you're in Sport mode (and we were absolutely in Sport mode), the level of ACT interference fades into the background. It mind sound a bit spooky, but like the other new M technologies we're about to mention, you can turn it completely off by fiddling around in the nav system.
Y'all ready for this one? Blind Spot Intervention (BSI). When another vehicle is detected in either of the M's rear corners, a yellow light illuminates on the A pillar as a warning. Nothing new there. However, should you then decide to steer into said obstacle – let's say you're trying to change lanes to the left – both right-side brakes are gently applied. Actually, forget gently. If you really cut the wheel, the brakes come on rather hard. The result is that you are pulled back into your previous trajectory. Though Infiniti assured us that if you really do want to smash into the car next to you, you can muscle your way through BSI. Obviously, we were extraordinarily skeptical of this (or any such) driver interference technology. But, we tried it out, and we're here to tell you that it works as advertised." |

As expected, Infiniti is coming out with high performance versions ala Lexus F models.
Here is a teaser by Infiniti of two G-based models coming with mods, most likely G sedan and coupe with the 5 liter V8 from the FX50, or perhaps or perhaps the same G37 engine with FI.

G25 would be nice to make Infiniti accessible to more people, as well as competition for the IS 250, TL, and the lesser 3 series, A4, and C class.
You know what would be nicer?
G50! With the engine from the FX50 tuned to around 420 hp to compete with the IS-F
BTW, I still wonder why they didn't go with the FX50 engine for the new M. M50 sounds better than M56, and the FX50 makes 390 hp which could easily be extended to 420 hp for use in the M. 5/27/2010 2:05:57 PM |
