My dad has a cheapo jeep wrangler for our farm and I need to remove the spare tire from the back. Unfortunately, it has a wheel lock lug nut and the jeep didn't come with a wrench key when we bought it years ago. Does anyone know of a place that would sell these locally or of a different way to get it off? 8/19/2009 3:21:48 PM |

If it's a steelie with a relatively flat face like most spare tires there is usually room to grab it with a pair of channel lock pliars.
If that doesn't work you can get someone to weld a bolt or a socket to the lug nut and take it off with a wrench. 8/19/2009 3:26:50 PM |

Sometimes you can drive a pipe over it and then use that as a "socket"...with a pipe wrench or channelocks. 8/19/2009 4:02:02 PM |

what year? the tool in the picture above is pretty much useless on jeep wheels as the lug nuts could be recessed all the way into the wheel, not to mention the angle you will have to use to more than likely scar the wheel up.
this wheel lock removal socket is always good to have around. it/they can be bought at any automotive parts store, harbor frieght or stores of the like 8/19/2009 7:36:29 PM |

if it's a steel rim spare, then a basin wrench might work. i don't really see it gripping to a smooth cylinder like a locking lugnut, though. 8/19/2009 7:44:03 PM |

If its an 84 your tool will not work for sure. I'm certain the lug nut is entirely in the wheel. 8/20/2009 11:18:25 AM |
