there's a HUGE ASS SPIDER outside my window right now spinning a web the size of my entire window

it's hard to make out what kind it is but it's body is shaped kinda like a black widow like this. but it looks more brown and looks like it has white spots on it's underside.

the only 2 poisonous spiders in NC are black widows & brown recluses (why they gotta be dark?)

black widows apparently can have an hour glass shape that ranges from red-yellow-to white! so look out.

black widows are called black widows because they eat their mates

I do believe, that there is a brown widow spider in Apex, NC. More specifically, in my wood pile.

Probably a banana spider. The get pretty big, and will put webs up in areas that get lots of sun.

Widows don't like the light, and are generally rather small.

I see black widows all the time while doing my daily farm work. they are usually in dark, damp places. I have never seen one act aggressively, though. As a matter of fact, I don't know of anyone who has been bitten by one even though most people can tell a story about somebody being bitten while sitting in an outhouse years ago.

^^^ That's not a banana spider. That's a black & yellow argiope.


A banana spider is a brazilian wandering spider, which is an extremely venomous and aggressive South American spider (sometimes inadvertently imported to the US in banana shipments).


The completely harmless golden silk spider (an orb-weaver) is sometimes mistakenly called a banana spider based on the shape of it's abdomen, but that's not what it is.



The picture at the top of the thread is a red widow. The spider from Apex looks like it could very well be a brown widow. Widow spiders vary widely in their appearance. Easiest way to identify something for sure is to kill it (bug spray) and take the carcass to the arboretum.

there is a huge fucking golden silk spider on my parents house, and it caught a big dragonfly. i took pics, this might be the best one. easily a 4-5" legspan

turns out that there are actually two camel spiders in that pic (duh...) and a camel spider isn't actually a spider. its something else called a solpugids.

i come bearing pics. he only comes out when it's dark out, probably cause the lights at my desk attract a lot of moths to my window, but he just sits there and stares at me while i work... plotting god knows what.

this is the best i can do with the glare and such low light. not a good angle to see how it's booty is shaped but it's shaped just like a black widow. big ol ass.
