not impressive. yeah i know it doesn't happen very often but nothing he did was spectacular or extraordinary so i don't see the big fuss about it. 8/24/2009 5:27:46 PM |

its impressive in that all the necessary ingredients were in place for an unassisted triple play (although partially due to his bobbles earlier in the inning) and he was able to capitalize...its not necessarily as exciting as a homerun robbing catch, but its pretty fucking rare and therefore impressive 8/24/2009 5:29:46 PM |

Yeah, I know it's really rare and it takes pretty much a perfect storm of circumstances to get one, but still. All he did was catch a ball, step on the base he was one foot away from and then tag the runner who was only a few feet away from him. I guess it's just that none of the actions themselves were impressive. He didn't make an amazing throw or a dramatic catch or anything, he just performed three very basic baseball moves at the end of the day. Maybe I'm just biased because I find baseball utterly boring. 8/24/2009 5:35:55 PM |

Most unassisted triple plays are relatively boring plays... I saw Troy Tulowitzki turn one live and nobody in the stands even knew what happened, nor did Tulo or the announcers, hahaha. They didn't even announce it til the next inning.
The video is at http://www.everyjoe.com/articles/baseball-video-a-one-man-triple-play-379/ .... he actually steps on second again and throws to first, lolol. 8/24/2009 5:55:19 PM |

^ I was at the game yesterday and saw it live. The Mets were rallying and it was a complete state of shock at first with everyone in the stands asking did he just make a triple play.
Not the most exciting play I have ever seen, but definitely the most surprising. And on a side note it is always great to see the Phillies win and the Mets lose. Thus making it even better. 8/24/2009 7:33:15 PM |
