Don't some people use that product that comes in a blue tub and is a highly oily minty cream and you spread it on your face and rub it around and then rinse it off?
Is it Noxzema? 9/4/2009 11:27:03 PM |

I've never really had problems with my skin to begin with so I only do it two or three times a week at night. My sister though does it almost every night.
I use 50% castor oil, 25% EVOO, 25% jojoba. I also add a bit of lavender oil to make it smell purdy.
OCM has worked a lot better than anything else I've ever used. You just need patience because you won't see instant results, especially if you're starting out really badly to begin with. I started seeing results about a week after starting.
My sister has always had a lot of breakouts and since doing OCM is clear all the time. She also uses an apple cider vinegar toner and she only wears minimal makeup to keep from breaking out. It's also important when you first start doing OCM that you don't wear makeup, especially shit like foundation. All you're doing is reclogging the pores you worked to unclog. Instead stick to stuff you're not applying to your skin, like lipstick and eyeshadow is even okay. If you start seeing results with OCM and something like the apple cider vinegar toner, you shouldn't need foundation anyway
This is a really good writeup on how to start with OCM: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/OIL-CLEANSING-METHOD-Hi-t141871.html

alright, i'm trying it out, got a mixture of 50%castor, 25% evoo and 25% sunflower oil. I'm always looking for new ways to fight acne
and I should try the apple cider vinegar stuff too. I hear it's a miracle worker all around --drink a couple tablespoons today to up metabolism, get rid of allergies, and boost immune system. unfortunately, it makes me almost throw up every time I do it, so I stopped taking it :/

Make sure to properly steam when you first start doing it. A lot of the time people just aren't patient enough to let it work. Once you get into a regular routine you can lessen the amount of time you do it each session. 9/6/2009 6:08:47 PM |

I have very oily skin, and it makes sense the way it's supposed to "provide" the oil so your face doesn't overproduce it 9/6/2009 10:39:27 PM |

haha did you try adding it to drinks rather than drinking it straight? If you add it to club soda with a little honey it's actually pretty good. Like a sour apple soda.9/7/2009 2:24:43 AM |

I, too, had the problem of oily skin when I was just hitting puberty in middle school.
I have come to you, TWW, to tell you of this great secret I found out in keeping my pores clean and my skin silky smooth and dry.
Take water, 3-4 times a day... and wash your fucking face. Wake up? Water in face, scrub it, dry it. Go to the bathroom? Yep. Going to bed? Yes.. it works then too! It's a MIRACLE! 9/7/2009 6:01:03 PM |

If said method does not work, I would recommend some of that proactiv stuff. I've heard good things about it from a few of my friends who have had issues with keeping their skin clear even with washing multiple times a day. This olive cream honey horse yeast bullshit is a bunch of hippie crap though IMO.

Uh. Yeah, sure, but only if you are going to guarantee some action afterward.

How tough is it to wash your face once when you wake up, once before you go to bed... and once just sometime during the day? I don't even use soap, just splash hot water on my face, and dry it off. I've never had acne/blackhead problems ever since I started doing that. 9/8/2009 1:12:06 AM |

i recommend it as well. i've never had bad acne but could never get my face completely clear either. a month of using it and my skin looked as good as it ever has.
it's kind of expensive though. that 3 piece "kit" is like $49 now9/8/2009 8:15:13 AM |

I live in the American Gardens building on West 81st street. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. 9/8/2009 11:00:42 AM |

I did this for the first time tonight.
I have the following oils: grapeseed kukui nut almond hemp seed castor
I did ~1:1 castor and kukui (that kukui stuff is FANTASTIC). Massaged the bejesus out of my face with it, and then began steaming it. Hot washcloth wasn't meeting my satisfaction, so I leaned over a pot of boiling water iwth a towel over my head. Fantastic.
I jumped the gun, and massaged just straight kukui on my face, having wiped off the oil mix, without properly evaluating what it needed. Oh well: there's a learning curve.
I'll keep this thread updated as I keep this up. My skin feels FANTASTIC, even if it's not clear yet.
-- Kukui nut oil: I ordered this because the vendor was out of jojoba oil. It's INCREDIBLE. So smooth, and VERY fast absorbing, and it leaves skin feeling sooooo silky! 5/14/2010 11:10:34 PM |
wolfpackgrrr All American 39759 Posts user info edit post |
I've thought about trying kukui nut. Maybe I'll order some once I'm back in the States.
Another trick is massaging the oil in while you're in the hot shower. You've already got the steam from the shower and you can wash the oil off when you're done with your shower. I usually jump in the shower, shampoo my hair, rinse, put in conditioner, massage the oil into my face, then go on with the rest of my routine.
