I'm making t-shirts for my school, and need to turn a scanned student drawing into a vector image for the printers.
What's the easiest way of going about this? I have the CS4 master suite, but beyond just tracing over the .jpeg in Fireworks or Illustrator, I'm not sure how to do this. 9/15/2009 6:46:06 PM |

Switch the words around in your subject, there are websites that will do it for free (although it won't always be as pretty as hand-tracing it yourself) and they are easy to find:

haha. oops.
But seriously, Illustrator won't do it automatically or something?
If I had paid for this, I'd be pissed that my $2500 piece of software couldn't do this.

^Illustrator does not cost $2500 neither does the suite.
also spending $100's - $1000's in art supplies, photography equipment doesn't mean it does everything for you.

But seriously. No automatic may of doing this?
I've tried the free ones a while ago, and they suck. Vectormagic is pretty awesome, but it's not free. I was hoping adobe had a solution to this.9/15/2009 7:22:38 PM |

^thats master collection...includes every adobe product more or less. (anyway that doesn't matter) 9/15/2009 7:26:37 PM |
Noen All American 31346 Posts user info edit post |
Adobe does have a solution to this. Illustrator can do it. But since you've already outlined that you're using the product illegally, and have already found another cheaper product that can do it (Vector Magic), it's a /thread.
If you want FREE, hand trace the thing yourself. If you want EASY, pay for a solution that works for you and that you can afford.
Next time, don't tell us you're using illegal software that you have no idea how to even use. 9/15/2009 7:33:45 PM |

Oh look, noen fucked up again about software.
You ever going to learn to just get off your fucking high horse?
Everyone in here knows that you were into some highly illegal shit back in the day. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if you still are. 9/15/2009 9:24:58 PM |

^not the point. You tards still don't get the difference between "don't flaunt it on a public forum" and "don't do it because it's wrong". Illustrator can do it with Live Trace. One of the most basic features of the product. Also, I'm calling bullshit on the "school license". 9/15/2009 10:05:58 PM |

Except I answered the man's question, while all you did is troll. Can I get a suspend in here? For personal attacks, completely off topic, and general douchebaggery, seriously dude.9/15/2009 11:24:00 PM |

Fail Boat, I'm gonna call your ass out now. I want to see you face to face, perhaps at say, Mitch's?
Also, when you vectorize a raster image, you can produce a ridiculous number of strokes unless you clean it up a bit first. So you might want to keep that in mind. If you reduce or smooth colors and gradients before vectorization, you should have better results.
A free program, inkscape, can also do this. 9/15/2009 11:54:56 PM |

While I have my fair share of disagreements with Noen, you, on the other hand, are a complete waste of everyones time and should be terminated along with every username you'll buy soon thereafter.9/16/2009 12:12:48 AM |

illustrator CS4 can create outlines and turn it into a vector. I had to this last week.
Unfortunately text usually ends up looking like shit using it, better off retyping the text. 9/16/2009 12:16:37 AM |

^ It has that capability after a fashion. It's not something you would use for graphics work. It's mainly used for converting geospatial data to a different data type. 9/22/2009 1:56:40 PM |
