the boys sat during the song and afterwards the owner told them to "get the fuck out of my ballpark"
they have names like muhamed and patel so they are obviously of non oriental asian ethnicities and are suing for violation of constitutional rights.
My question is, if they are in a privately owned ballpark, can't the owner kick you out for whatever he thinks is inappropriate. Do constitutional rights extend from publicly owned property to "public events" on private property?
For people who don't believe in God. Do you stand and respect the song? Does anyone get offended by people "disrespecting" the song? 9/16/2009 12:36:00 AM |

I don't believe in God
I stand so as to not spite believers
I also don't have a strong need to really just arbitrarily antagonize a group.
I don't recite anything, either. 9/16/2009 1:01:36 AM |

No, this exact topic was covered extensively somewhere on here.
Although the previous encounter was in the Yankees stadium, I believe. Maybe not them, but it was a Northern team.

Ive been to many sporting events, and have never had anyone stand up to "God bless America"!!
That's not our goddamn National Anthem!!
Secondly, for those who claim that song as such, and who claim to be Christian would know that God would not consider the USA above any other random country!
Some Americans REALLY need to get the fuck over themselves!! SERIOUSLY! 9/16/2009 2:10:40 AM |

Some do. It all depends on how open to the public the private property is. Stores like walmart have much less discretion than private clubs like Sams Club, for example.
And on top of that, private whatevers can't discriminate against protected classes such as race, religion, age, etc.9/16/2009 2:27:06 AM |

fucking dumb
God Bless America and singing the national anthem at sporting events that don't involve the United States competing are annoying as hell
but I stand because how hard is it to stand up for 2 minutes and avoid people being pissed off at you if they do think it's serious business? I've never understood why people make such a big deal about it. 9/16/2009 8:10:54 AM |

Legally, if its private, there is no way he can violate their constitutional rights. the constitution only applies to gov't action. Tickets to sporting events, however, are only licenses, that can be revoked for whatever reason, without good cause, so long as they are reimbursed. 9/16/2009 8:12:16 AM |

It doesn't refer to any particular God. It just says 'god'. In general terms.
I'm sure muhamed and patel have a god.
They were just being difficult and disrespectful faggots for no reason.
And if they did it for anti-american reasons, then why bother paying money to come to a game in the first place? 9/16/2009 8:25:13 AM |

Yankee Stadium. The house that rich, white, Christian, corporate bigwigs built. If you don't like it, you can get the fuck out. Only thing worse than Yankees fans are Phillies fans, but both are gutter trash.9/16/2009 9:24:44 AM |

Even if the owner has every right to kick any person out of the stadium for any reason, you would think a wise owner would choose to ignore what he perceived as a slight, in the interest of, oh, i don't know, not being a grown man acting like a 3 year old having a temper tantrum to a bunch of high school kids. Sadly, this will probably do more to help than hurt tickets sales. 9/16/2009 9:47:35 AM |

To me this sounds like some teenagers word against an Owner. I have no doubt that the owner kicked them out, but was it entirely for not standing during God Bless America, who knows.
The problem I have is these kids are suing for tickets that probably totaled $30 for the three of them. You are not going to get any sympathy from me for trying to get rich on some BS. Reading additional info on this the team offered them tickets to another game and apologized though the Co-Owner was not present.
God Bless America is typically played during the Seventh Inning stretch at baseball games especially in the New York metro area. So typically your already standing anyways, I do have a problem with people that don't stand during the Star Spangle Banner. That's the national anthem show some respect even if you are visiting from another country.
I believe the stadium was built and paid for by the team while infrastructure is the Government responsibility so you can be thrown out for anything. 9/16/2009 9:56:58 AM |

So they play God Bless America and the US national anthem during soccer games between Las Chivas and Los Rayados?
\/ You tell me. NCSU v Murray State. Both schools are in the United States, the game probably even takes place there, so what's a sporting event that doesn't involve the US but still plays their anthem? Guadalajara v. Monterrey was my guess.

the story of one crazy kook half the nation away that has probably been convoluted enough to lose almost all truth to it and probably happened nothing like was "reported" is literally changing peoples opinions about national pride/ religion/ sports/ respect of others beliefs on a dime. ha
if somehow this makes you hate 'american pride' events at sporting events, i guess you better stay inside and on tww more, b/c this is the least of your worries. haha.

I interpreted what he said as a game where one of the teams is the United States, ie, USA vs Mexico in soccer or something, or an Olympic event.

Does saying God Bless America imply that one is asking God to put the USA over another country? When you sneeze and someone says "God bless you", does that mean they think you should be put ahead of everyone else?9/16/2009 11:46:57 AM |
