This thread is for all things Fantasy Hockey related.

On another note, I am setting up a league on yahoo. Anyone interested? Its not for money, just for fun. There will be a live draft on Wednesday, Sept 30th and 7pm.

Its a 10 person team league, head to head. PM me if you want to play and I will send you the league info.

i can't do a live draft, and i'm more comfortable with rotisserie scoring. but i'll post in here with questions and shit.

I'd be interested. I've never played fantasy hockey and I don't exactly live in a hockey hotbed where I can find others to play with, so I'll settle for good 'ol Tee-Dub.

so do you want to play in the league?

[Edited on September 21, 2009 at 12:51 PM. Reason : also, if you dont want to do the live draft, Yahoo will autopick for you]

I didn't do rotisserie scoring because it tends to separate the 4 best teams from the rest of the league. Its not as competitive as head to head.

I had to change the draft time to Thursday (Oct 1st), 7pm in order for people to have enough time to sign up.

[Edited on September 22, 2009 at 12:54 PM. Reason : and the league begins in week 2]

is everyone ok with that?

my auto draft team from my other league...

C Derek Roy (Buf)
C Anze Kopitar (LA)
LW Patrick Marleau (SJ)
LW David Booth (Fla)
RW Corey Perry (Anh)
RW Alexander Semin (Was)
D Zdeno Chara (Bos)
D Shea Weber (Nsh)
D Brian Campbell (Chi)
D Cam Barker (Chi)
BN Alex Burrows (Van - LW)
BN Scott Gomez (Mon - C)
BN Daniel Cleary (Det - RW)
BN --empty--

G Semyon Varlamov (Was)
G Kari Lehtonen (Atl)
BN Martin Biron (NYI - G)

my overall verdict... meh. my goaltending really needs some work. i'm pretty pleased with my defenders overall. forwards are OK, but not WOW great.

yeah your goaltending definitely needs work. I would try to use one of your wingers in a trade, you have some depth there.

[Edited on September 24, 2009 at 3:57 PM. Reason : .]

Also, we have 9 spots filled out of 10 in the fantasy league

one spot still left

PM me if you would like to get in

Which position usually earns you the most points - Goalie, Forward, Defenseman.

my weakness the past few years is in goal though. i feel i can manage the forwards better to get points (in rotisserie scoring anyway) but my goalie stats are always lacking.

i'm more tempted to get rid of Cleary than Marleau though.

I like the automatic draft we had last year. I lucked out with Crosby and a few good players on defense. I picked up Marleau on waivers and he took off. Twas quite exciting. And oh yeah Steve Mason I must thank for winning me goalie categories when I couldn't win any at the beginning of the year (Biron )

Hopefully same result happens this year as I took it all on an awesome last few weeks of the year!

I love my team but this is my first fantasy hockey league. I ended up dropping Ryder for Stastny. Stastny has a shit ton of potential if he can stay healthy. Took over the #1 center spot in Colorado.

I need a RW now though. Any LW is on the block including Sedin, Whitney and Ryan Smyth.

My D is stacked. Getting Gonchar in the 12th round was nice.

1. (2) Evgeni Malkin C
2. (19) Daniel Sedin LW
3. (22) Martin Brodeur G
4. (39) Dan Boyle D
5. (42) Zdeno Chara D
6. (59) Ray Whitney LW
7. (62) Bobby Ryan RW
8. (79) Ryan Smyth LW
9. (82) Kristian Huselius LW
10. (99) Travis Zajac C
11. (102) Alex Burrows LW
12. (119) Sergei Gonchar D
13. (122) Marek Zidlicky D
14. (139) Kimmo Timonen D
15. (142) Pekka Rinne G
16. (159) Michael Ryder RW
17. (162) Danny Briere C

Looking at those teams reminds me of why I'm terrible at fantasy hockey...I think of building a hockey team, not an all-star team, and I can't get my head around the latter.

*sigh*

Coach Emilio Estevez
1. (1) Alexander Ovechkin
2. (20) Patrick Kane
3. (21) Vincent Lecavalier
4. (40) Tim Thomas
5. (41) Johan Franzen
6. (60) Nicklas Lidstrom
7. (61) Daniel Alfredsson
8. (80) Jay Bouwmeester

14. (140) Ilya Bryzgalov
15. (141) Shawn Horcoff
16. (160) Jonathan Cheechoo

no idea...all i know is Ovechkin is the man, Kane beat some cab driver's ass but is still on the cover of one of the hockey video games, and Thomas had the best percentage of saves?

I would consider that to be a pretty nasty team except you only have 3 defensemen, and you should get another goalie as well.

I always like to have at least 3, but I guess you can get by with 2 as long as they both are playing consistently (those two should).

This all depends on the roster format for the league as well.

I think I could have done a lot worse than this bunch. It was my first time with the live draft, I've always just done casual autopick leagues in the past.
