I was just given a 36" proview lcd tv and am having issues with it finding channels. The room that it is in does not have any access to cable so im interested in it picking up channels over the air for the time being. I plugged a set of rabbit ears into both the HDTV (air) and the cable tv jacks and scan for channels only for it to find none. I live in Cary so i should be able to get something with rabbit ears, right? Any ideas on how to fix this? 10/6/2009 7:27:16 PM |

^^ Clearly you didnt pay too much attention to those commercials. I may be a TV retard but even I know that antenna TV is still out there, it just transitioned from analog to digital. Im equipped with a digital receiver 10/6/2009 8:04:38 PM |

On the real, in my experience you're not gonna be able to pick up much of anything with rabbit ears. Check out antennaweb to see how far away you are from the local stations and get a recommendation on what type of antenna you'll need and what direction you'll need to point it in order to get channels. Unless you're just right on top of a station, rabbit ears probably aren't gonna cut it. Then again, Cary is pretty close to where they broadcast, so you should be getting something. I dunno. 10/6/2009 8:11:25 PM |

^ hey fucktard study up for a sec
the real answer is that you can still pick up antenna channels if your tv has a built in digital converter
thanks for playing

If you're being serious and not actually trolling then let me know and I'll tell you the 10 or so things that are incorrect about that statement.
Actually, if you're serious then don't bother letting me know because you won't be smart enough to understand what's going on. 10/6/2009 8:27:48 PM |

You mean digital tuner? What would it convert to? Digital to digital?
-I used rabbit ears near campus and got all the local channels fine. Depends where you are i guess. antennaweb is a good resource.

Also explain this to me, in the OP it says:
Quote : | "both the HDTV (air)" |
Which obviously means this is the hole the antennae goes to get free high definition over the air. What did you think it meant?10/6/2009 9:44:48 PM |

On many TVs it doesn't matter. They just provide 2 connections so you can hook up cable and an antenna separately. 10/6/2009 10:29:41 PM |

Well yeah that's beside the point. I was simply asking how "HDTV (AIR)" implying high definition over the air went along with his statement that antenna TV went out months ago. 10/6/2009 11:03:17 PM |

im right near campus and i pickup about 16 channels, maybe half of them HD including all the regulars (fox, cbs, abc, nbc + plus cw)
i went to walmart and got a 30 dollar antenna that lays flat (looks like a small scanner) and has an external amplifier 10/6/2009 11:11:15 PM |

i'm in morrisville and i get pretty much everything over-the-air (pbs, cbs, abc, fox, cw, etc) without having to get up and adjust the rabbit ears at all 10/7/2009 2:23:02 PM |

^^same here. I'm near NCSU and can get 16+ channels including CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, ABC.
If rabbit ears arent working go out and get a digital antenna that has an amplifier. I got mine online for $20-$30 and it works great. I have also taken it tailgating at CF to watch games. Make sure your TV is scanning for digital channels and not just analog (some TVs have different settings for how they are scanning)
If you can get a weak signal, you can go online and find tower locations so that you can point in the right direction. My antenna is sensitive if someone walks in front of it within about 5 feet, so you might need to find an are without high traffic to put it (only affects if they walk between it and where the signal is coming from)
most signals near raleigh come from the 3 tall towers out in garner/clayton area 10/7/2009 2:41:48 PM |

Don't know about rabbit ears alone but the powered rabbit ears we bought about 8 years ago bring in about 18 channels.
The hardest ones to get have been 4 (1-2-3) 11 (1-2-3) 40 (1-2)
They'll drop out from time to time. I think we have problems with 11 because it's the only channel in the area to broadcast in VHF while the rest are in UHF. Channel 4 is a distance thing.
I don't think 40 is a distance thing, but I still get a random flake-out for channel 5 from time to time and their antenna is less than 10 miles away. I've noticed weather, wind, and trees interfere quite a bit.
So yeah, I rambled. You might have to get a powered antenna to be able to pick up anything.

Did your tv ask you to pick between analog and digital under the antennae settings ...?
If not, you likely dont have built in digital capabilities. If you never saw this menu, then go look for it and try to make the tv use its digital channel search instead of analog channel searching. 10/8/2009 9:37:39 AM |

on this rare occasion it sounded like El Nacho was trying to be helpful. there wasn't anything inflammatory about his post. no need to get your panties wadded up so tight.
