Which one should I pick?

Babylon 5
Firefly
Andromeda
Battlestar Galactica
Farscape
Stargate SG1/Atlantis
Others?

I've never seen any of any of these except a few episodes of B5

if you're going to be a sci-fi snob you'd better be prepared to accept that Dune is arguably the only worthwhile part of the genre

Firefly
Battlestar Galactica...both are must see

Unlike the rest of the people in this thread, I wont comment on the quality of something I have never seen or only seen an episode or two of.

As far as Fringe, its decent, but the above two should take priority, unless you just want to watch something you can get caught up on and then watch with everyone else.

Firefly is AWESOME.

I should rewatch some Farscape... I remember liking it when it was first out, then stopped watching for some reason.

Firefly hands down.

People say they like BSG but I for one just can't tolerate watching the constant shaky-cam filming style.

Stargate SG-1 is worth watching for the first couple seasons. After that the special effects budget gets a lot bigger while the writing and plots (and to lesser degree the acting) get a lot worse.

Firefly. If anyone in here tells you anything else in the same breath as claiming to be a nerd on the subject, they're fucking lying through their teeth.

agreed...and i'm not sure you can say one is better than the other, really, because they're both very different from each other

firefly is best described as a "space western," IMO...personally, i hate westerns and if someone had told me that before i'd seen the series, it would have made me think twice about watching it...but when you DO watch it, you realize that's a pretty accurate description and it's awesome

BSG is scifi, sure, but it's less so than a lot of shows...the character development is amazing...it's one of those shows that i sat down and watched show after show after show and was a bit disappointed when it was all over (though by the end, it needed to be done)

My current and former roommates had a weird obsession with Battlestar Galactica. Like it was the only show they've ever watched consistently in their lives....and they're both 30.

So I'll vote for that one...having never watched any of those shows.

i like this thread.

Does Firefly have a true finale even though it was only 14 episodes or does it leave a lot to be answered/desired?

No, what's fucking weird is my ex-boyfriend who would have The Stand miniseries playing on his DVD on repeat for months on end.

Studying? The Stand is on. Watching Youtube videos? The Stand is on. Masturbating? The Stand is on.

Maybe that's part of the reason we broke up
