to get back on topic... surprised they are ranked this high... They were really really young last year so I guess everyone assumes the younger guys are ready to go now. Bruce has supposedly been pushing them a lot harder than last year now that they are used to the system; but still I was expecting somewhere around 20 to not ranked 10/29/2009 3:44:14 PM |

so talking about the Vols' last game is trolling? I guess you're not allowed to talk about the Boston College game 2 weeks ago since State lost, and therefore even mentioning it would be trolling
Quote : | "you were saying that Tennessee and NC State having the same number of tournament victories last year somehow made them equal to one another in performance, which is shit." |
no, i was saying Tennessee and NC state probably had the same number of tournament victories over the last DECADE...which would imply neither of them have done anything great, and that yes, all things considered, over the last 10 years, both programs are about equal...your reading is shit

1. you werent just talking about the last game, you were trolling 2. the last game in the SAME season means a lot more than the last game from a year ago 3. the last game being against a randon opponent in a tourney isnt as meaningful as the last game in the same season 4. so you were saying because neither won a tournmanet game last year they were equal in overall (not just tournament performance)

first of all, only a retard would compare winning the ACC in basketball to the SEC...if Kentucky was worth a damn over the last 5 years you'd have a point, but they weren't (though they will be)
second, has Tennessee made 5 straight NCAA tourneys?? ooh look at that great stat, 5 straight tourney appaeances!

so therefore, I was stating that talking about the last game from the previous season is not the same thing (or as meaningful) as the last game played in the season you are currently in... it doenst mean shit, you were just bringing it up as an attempt to troll. Oh shit, Bama lost to Utah last year!
^ yeah, the SEC is JUST Kentucky... we will just forget about those Florida national championships and we might as well just forget about playing Memphis each year

well, 1. I wouldnt base it on one single accomplishment...
2 sweet 16 appearances in the last 3 years, being ranked #1 (but but Jaybee! that was only for one week!!!, so, better than not being there at all), beating #1 ranked teams, winning the conference, great recruiting - especially for a school with shit in state talent outside of Memphis, ranked in the top 10 for most of the season etc.

ok so here's what we're looking at:
Tenn: 7 appearances NCSU: 5 appearances
Tenn: three Sweet 16s NCSU: one Sweet 16
Tenn: ranked #1 NCSU: (can't recall, we might've been top 10 or 15 at one point when we finished 2nd in the ACC and were a 3 seed)
Tenn: 1 conference title NCSU: 0 conference titles
conclusion:
Tennessee has been better than State over the last 10 years, specifically the last 3 years, although not by a landslide...and most importantly, neither team has gotten past the sweet 16
and in the first 5 years, State wins appearances 5 to 3, with each team having 1 sweet 16...State was better the first 5 years, but Tennessee was even better the last 5 years
doesnt sound like some kind of blowout to me

Quote : | "The Tennessee men’s basketball team landed its first verbal commitment in the class of 2011, dipping into Georgia for five-star point guard Kevin Ware.
Ware, a 6-foot-4 prospect who’s ranked as the No. 21 player nationally in the Rivals 150, plays at Rockdale County High School in Conyers, Ga. He averaged 16 points, 8.5 assists and eight rebounds as a sophomore last season.
“I came up and caught the last part of the basketball game Friday night and saw how they played, and then the football game was real cool,’’ Ware said. “I loved those fans, and the black jerseys they wore . . . it was cool how they warmed up in orange and then turned around and put the black on.’’
Ware said recruits do notice and like that sort of thing.
“Oh yeah, you notice that, because I had never seen them in black before,’’ he said. “We went into the locker room, and the Tennessee players were all real excited putting them on, and the coaches were yelling and screaming and getting them real focused.’’
Ware’s focus is getting the ball up the court quickly and scoring in transition when he’s not defending and distributing the ball.
“Those are some of Kevin’s strengths, and we felt like Tennessee fit what he does best,’’ said Al Williams, who took Ware’s Rockdale County team into Georgia’s Sweet 16 in his first year there as head coach last season. “We were all very impressed with the university, and we do the same types of things that Coach (Bruce) Pearl does in our system, and that’s what prompted the commitment.’’
Williams said Ware’s commitment wasn’t necessarily planned before the visit, as he has also been offered scholarships by Miami, Fla., Florida and Georgetown.
“We went up there to look at the facilities and talk to the players, and even without Coach Pearl around, it was very evident those guys really love each other,’’ Williams said. “A lot of schools can talk that talk, but don’t walk the walk.’’
Ware is an AAU teammate on the Atlanta Celtics with the Vols’ two verbal commitments in the class of 2010, point guard Trae Golden and shooting guard Jordan McRae.
“It’s good knowing I’m going up there with people I already know,’’ said Ware, whose primary recruiter is UT associate head coach Tony Jones. “It’s just Tennessee’s style of play, how I fit the system, and the academics.
“Georgetown was too far away, Florida stopped recruiting me once, and the only reason they started up again was they lost a player, and I only talked to Miami four or five times.’’
Ware said he had a long talk with his parents about making a verbal commitment more than a year before he can sign with the team.
“It’s a commitment, and my dad told me once I’m in it, I should plan on staying with it,’’ Ware said. “He said if you decided to go somewhere else after making a commitment, people will look at you differently; I don’t want that.’’" |
