Looked for other threads, but they were all old or dealt primarily with student housing. I just found out a few weeks ago that I'll be shipped off to Wilmington by my company starting the first of the year.
I'll be working at the water treatment plant right north of downtown. I'd really rather not stay too close to UNCW, and I've heard good things about Monkey Junction, but it appears traffic between there and downtown is terrible. Is there such a thing as a relatively cheap place to live close to downtown (or near Wrightsville?)
Does anyone have any recommendations (downtown or otherwise) on an apartment/house for rent?
I'm looking to pay about 600-800/mo.
Any ideas/help would be appreciated - thanks in advance 11/7/2009 4:50:34 PM |

You can probably find something cheap in Leland or Castle Hayne (both 10-15 mins from downtown Wilmington)
The water treatment plant is on or near castle hayne rd, isn't it?] 11/7/2009 5:05:11 PM |

Apartment I am assuming? Look at Tesla Park or the Tribute property located in leland and there is one in north wilmington, cant beat the price and they are good safe apartments. 11/7/2009 7:35:25 PM |

My lady says that monkey junction is very nice. She also says you can avoid traffic by taking Carolina Beach rd. into town.
she says go that route. She always lived near the college so she can't be of much help as to the specifics. 11/7/2009 8:41:52 PM |

i lived in monkey junction (crosswinds) up until i left to go to NCSU.
shit has picked up around there in the past couple of years.
overall, it's a nice area... very convenient to everything... and, in wilmington tradition, there is a strikingly high density of restaurants per square mile 11/7/2009 10:44:37 PM |

I've been thinking of buying something in Wilmington lately. I was scouting for houses there around 2003, but they started going up in value like crazy. The year I was looking at them they saw a 17.5% increase on average iirc. I'd like to get something with a detached garage so that I could rent the house, build an apartment above the garage, and have a little getaway close to the beach for myself until I can afford an actual beach front house. 11/7/2009 10:50:52 PM |

Yep, it's right north of downtown on Hilton Road.

I'm on the fence as to apt/house. I'll be there for two years at least - in all probability, it will be an apt that I end up in

You damn right it is.
I'm going to take a weekend and go look at these places, specifically Castle Hayne and Monkey Junction. Thank you all for your help 11/8/2009 5:11:15 PM |

You can look at the apartments with the highest concentration of doche bag hippies
but how do you narrow it down? 11/10/2009 5:44:26 PM |

Will be moving to Wilmington in the next few weeks and am looking for tips on places to live. Work is on the 3900 block of Oleander Drive, so something relatively close to that would be preferable.
Really looking for somewhere with other young professionals as I only know a few people in the area. Looking to rent a room for a few months, preferably with a roommate who already has ties to the area. Will probably look to buy a house later in the year, so not looking for anything too permanent.
Price range is flexible, though I'm not trying to break the bank. Any input is appreciated.
Oh, and if there's anyone who lives in the area and plays in the local adult soccer league, I'll be looking to join a team, so hit me up if your's has a spot open. 7/5/2011 4:25:43 PM |

I currently live at the Reserves at Mayfaire, which is pretty nice. Pretty expensive ($880 for a 1 bedroom). It's about 2 miles to Wrightsville beach
I am about to buy a house and looking for a roomate, PM me if your interested 7/9/2011 5:27:11 PM |

If I lived in Wilmington I would want to live RIGHT NEAR DA BEACH, BOYEEEE!.
I'm headed that way tomorrow. Debating whether to take the surfboard (which involves putting racks on my car and driving 65 the whole way) or just throw the boogie board in the trunk.

that place is pretty baller.
I lived at the Reserves at Forest Hills - very nice and reasonable. Location is what sold me. Right there in between the college and downtown. You're outside the 1 mile radius so you can get a parking pass to drive to uncw.7/10/2011 1:32:25 AM |

I lived in the Reserve at Mayfaire right after they opened. I thought the location was basically amazing. I miss being able to walk to the theatre, all the shops and restaurants too. It isn't a bad drive to the beach at all and the pool there was pretty amazing.
The only thing, as already mentioned, was the price...It is a pretty standard one bedroom apartment for that cost and I remember thinking the walls were relatively thin and I could hear a lot around me. 7/10/2011 9:37:31 AM |

Theres not much housing on Oleander you will have to venture to other places. There are some nice apartment complexes but if you are looking for a roommate best bet would craigslist. 7/10/2011 9:49:42 PM |
