Just a thought. You know, post buy/sell, opinions, best deals, etc.

And furthermore, one question I have...have you found it to be worthwhile to buy from Tire Rack? I haven't bought a set of tires from them in about 5 years. And of course, everybody's mounting and disposal fees keep climbing. If you buy from Tire Rack, who do you get to mount them?

I haven't purchased from them in years. I always get discount tire or tire king to price match and throw in other services that I wouldn't get if just had them mount them.

It usually ends up being the same, since tirerack charges tax too.

[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 1:48 PM. Reason : Discount tire for mounting. About $15 bucks the last time I went.]

^That's pretty much what I do. I used to buy tires from Tirerack, but then I just got Discount Tire to price match.

The OEM rubber on my S2000 will probably have to be replaced next summer and I'm already thinking about what I should replace them with. I can't believe these tires have 21,000 miles. I wouldn't be surprised if the rear tires last another 8,000 miles or so. If I can squeeze another track day out of them I'll be happy

I've heard that a 225 front / 255 rear tire set up is cheaper than the OEM 215/245 size. That is also the size used on the CR (of course those wheels are also 1/2 inch wider). I guess we'll see...

i run 225/255 .

i'm sure tire brand is just as important as tire size as far as fitting on your rims.

I'm not gonna get shit tires like you Maybe the Bridgestones that come stock on the CR (though I'd like tires that are decent in the rain and last more than 15k, so maybe not).

fwiw i dont think there are any 225's wider then azenis. they fit fine.

i think the stock 215 bridgestone is about equal to a traditional 205.

if you can make an RE050 last 20k miles on an s2000 you dont need a performance tire.

lol, i dunno man maybe I have some freak tire compound at work. I put 160 track miles on the tires the other month, I take most turns too fast, and I don't mind the occasional drift when turning left through an intersection It's an S2000 so I'm not doing smokey burnouts.

I've heard of some people running 245 or even 255 front and rear to get more oversteer action

[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 3:00 PM. Reason : i have a hard time believing 255's fit in the front without modification]

I'm low on funds, but need some new(er) 225/60/16 tires. Cheapest on Tire Rack is like $68 each. What do y'all think about those used tire places (like the on 401)? This rain made me realize how badly I need to get my tires replaced.

It depends, what kind of driving habits do you have? Do you do anything sporty? You want high grip?

Or do you want a tire that delivers a smooth ride, long treadwear, good rain/snow performance, and is quiet?

Duty Tire on Tryon gets close to tire rack prices, and has the best mount/balance rates around.

If they can't get them, I'll get them from tire rack and have them do the M/B.

Atlantic Tire in Cary is a good place not just for tires but for general repair work too. They took good care of my noisy steering. They're supposed to be opening a store in Raleigh sometime soon and they'll have a great guy managing it.

I, for one will not be posting in the 'official tire thread.' New thread anytime I want questions answered on tires.

I don't do any particularly sporty driving. I drive a POS 2.3L Mustang, and just want to find a happy medium between price and longevity (quiet is good too).

^^^Just go to Pep Boys or Discount Tire and tell them that exact thing. For your purposes I don't think you need a brand name tire, a discount brand should be fine.

I have had good luck with tire rack. I usually just order my tires through work though. Wholesale ftw. 15 to mount seems outrageous. Murrays does it for 10 each. I woudl hate my life if i didnt have a machine and had to get robbed by these places.

Yeah. Really. I hate my life because I don't have access to such things anymore. I hate my life even further because I no longer have access to an exhaust tubing bender, a couple of lifts, or a paint booth anymore. Dang it.

If I thought I could make enough money doing it I would.

But to start a bidness, you gotta have capital. Which I don't.

Or credit. Which I don't.

Or be willing to suck cock. Which I ain't.

My tires are so bald that I start to lose traction going over 60 mph in the rain.
