coming from my 6x9s...

from both speakers, and amp channel. static/noise when engine is off + alternator whine when engine on. speaker wire from radio to RCAs (through line level converter) doesn't even have to be connected.

tried a new remote wire
tried moving the remote wire
tried a new remote location
tried a new ground
tried moving the ground wire
tried a new ground location
tried new speaker wire
tried different amp channels
tried moving the power wire (I don't have any extra)
and I may have left something off this list....

suggestions? a free beer goes to the winner, if that comes tonight

observations:
there is no noise when no RCA inputs are plugged in. however, as soon as you plug in an RCA (even if the RCA isn't connected to anything on the other end) there is the noise.... bad RCA cables? two of them...?

get some higher quality shielded cables

[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 7:34 PM. Reason : and run them on the opposite side of the car from the amp power cables, never run them parallel]

And while you're at it, get a filter capacitor for your alternator's powerlead.

Get some ferrite chokes to put on your RCA cables...and if you replace your RCA cables, get double-twisted ones.

The remote wire has nothing to do with it. Neither does your ground.

If it only happened when the engine was running I'd say your line level converter or wiring is running too close to a power wire, but if it does it while the vehicle is shut off it's probably a problem with shit quality amplifier, line level converter, or wiring.

What kind of amp, line level converter, and wiring are you running? You don't have the power wire and the line level converter/speaker wiring running side by side do you? If so, separate them and test again.

i think it's an amp problem. it's an old 4x400 jensen. i've found that if I run only on one set of inputs (A/B or C/D) there is no noise... but when splitting (A/C and B/D or A/D and B/C) the noise returns... this is also independent of RCA/speaker/etc.

noise was still present without inputs, thus running speaker wire, etc with power is irrelevant in this case.

Yeah dude...If you got a Jensen that pretty much comes with the territory.

Alternator whine due to age?

Nah...It's due to Jensen.
